It just depends on who you know, shopping around, and getting yourself dirty and doing most of the work yourself. I've seen some of the drop outs as low as $3,000 to $5,000, if not, they will be in a couple years, and you can probably get all the outlander parts cheap at a junk yard for the rear. Or, you can probably get a mirage in need of some work for around $2,000 to $3,000 and save a few bucks to offset the costs if you plan to upgrade. I will say that if you don't want to do it yourself or at least some of the work, it will costs you over $15,000, car and all.

I don't get it, you're worried about paying a lot for insurance but you have no problem risking your insurance outright and being out the entire cost of the car by not telling them you're modifying your car. Don't you want some protection for your project? No one is actually "putting down" this project, people are simply being realistic. You're naive if you think it's going to be cheap. So far, I only know of two people that have swapped in Evo motors (on Evom) and both had high costs associated with it. They didn't do an AWD swap either. I think there is someone on SCLC who has/is doing the AWD swap but we have no idea on the details, how long it took, how much it cost, what problems he encountered, etc. If all you require is people to stroke your ego and tell you how great this project is, I suggest you don't post about it. You have to except and accept criticism. It's not "hatin", it's just criticism which can be very constructive.

Well as far as the awd swap, it took, iirc, about 6 months and a crap load of money.

Ok let me brake this down in lamen terms for you to understand. If you would take the time to read my post you would understand that i said No Insurance Until I am 25 years old I do not live in in the USA or canada or wherever else in the world teenagers can get insurance sure some guys younger than me have insurance for SI civics evos stis etc.... and yeah they are paying out of there a** to afford it but it is only because they had they're sports cars before this new policy went into effect and /or they have family or know people in the insurance industry that has the power to autorise them to drive these cars.Cost is also not my concern i am paying 2500 a year for my mazda and as far as doing this swap I am doing it because 1.I was inspired by the 2 lancers who have done this swap 2.I got the motor for dirt cheap from a friend of mine 3.this is a project that i want to do at home and it will make me feel good about myself when i get it done it just something not many people take the time or money to do but hey i had this car for 4 years now i am in no rush i have my mazda 3 driving daily i feel i have nothing to loose i think this project will inspire many others like how it inspired me also while criticsm is good we all know about the headaches and all already but it makes no sense for this thread to have people saying the samething over and over again i gets annoying what is more helpful when people give ideas to help this build like juanmartinez did and not criticize it and also i suggest if you have that same attitude you do not post again Sir!!

So you have zero insurance right now? Isn't that in itself a liability? I don't understand the point in investing money into a project that isn't protected. What I mean by this is that if you get in a wreck, all the time and money you spent on the car is gone, never to be seen again. Maybe I'm just an old prude but I like the idea of being covered.
This is a public forum, you cannot limit the comments to ones you like. Again, no one is criticizing the build persay, they are simply point out obvious problems and suggesting alternatives.

You are taking a very big risk by not informing your insurance company. Will they check? It's entirely possible that they won't but what happens if they do? They could deny coverage outright (which could mean that your car isn't covered and you have to personally cover any damage caused to another vehicle, medical expenses, etc) and they could blacklist you meaning that when you want to get an evo, your account indicates that you are very high risk. I strongly suggest telling your insurance company about your project or at the very least inquiring into what their policy is regarding modified vehicles.

I personally know the person who goes around and check the car and also i know a few agents who are very close friends of mine it's just that it is policy that i won't be able to get insurance on a sports car until i am 25 so i am not at a high risk of getting covered but thanks for you advice and concern but i know my way around the system and one of my agents knows about it and told it would be ok as long as none of the higher heads in the office knows about it but honestly I have been insured with them for 4 years now and i only have 3rd party insurance anyways due to the fact my car has flood damage done to it during the hurricane that hit here 4 years ago so if i do crash and destroy my car i won't get covered but it does cover damage done to property of another person if there in someone else involed in the accident

Well that's all the more reason to do it. If the thing won't be covered anyway, you have nothing to worry about

I look forward to seeing you complete this project. I really hope you go through with it all and take lots of pics.

b/c when you are torn between waiting 3 years to get a car or doing a really cool project that you already have a chunk of the parts for, you tend to get impatient... Or at least some do.

Here is the problem, as you say here, it's fine until someone finds out, which means it's not fine. Smoking pot is fine if you don't get caught but if you do, you risk fines, lose of your license, jail time, etc.

You don't get in trouble for smoking pot, its having it in your possession.
