For maximum sharpness, you are right about lens quality - but to improve the sharpness your lens can provide to your images, tripods are fantastic and required if you are shooting slower than shutter speed 1/50 (as least for me). ISO only "helps" from the standpoint that the higher the ISO, the noisier the image will be (due to higher gain), but the faster your shutter speed can be (also due to the higher gain). If you are shooting low light at say 1/50 shutter speed (without a tripod), but your images are still blurry, you can increase the ISO, which allows you to speed up the shutter and therefore capture less motion blur.

I agree completely with Z_Lancer_man. But another trick I use to get a blue sky is to buy a color polorizer they are cheap. Put them on ur lens spin them to get the desired look and they will make the image colors more saturated. Creating a richer picture and a bluer sky

Great answers. Just dont increase you ISO to much, it creates camera noise. Most of the time the noise will show up in darker areas of the photo first.

To capture the sky, I personally shoot 3-5 shots.

Thanks man...I'm practically done with it , just saving up for the evo 8/9 and maybe a 240 project car.

Anyone try out the Nikon D3200 yet? Kind of curious if its worth it over a D5100, snapsort says D5100 still but better MP, colors and image quality at the loss of the flip out screen. Looking to upgrade around christmas time =) maybe Nikon will bring out a D5200 before then heh.
