Yes it had 5 coats of clear. i used brake cleaner, sanded off all the clear coat and got the caliper smooth, also removed the old decal. then cleaned again with brake cleaner before painting.

TCC You guys are really making it hard for those of us who wanted to do this in our garage. Your Calipers turn out soo clean I cant justify not spending the money. How are your calipers holding up to the brownbo effect?

It's a very lengthy process, I wish we could show a step-by-step of just how much work goes into each and every set of calipers. As far as durability here is a set of calipers we coated for a customer, check out the 2nd page where he updates that they are holding up excellent after 1 year of abuse:

Also keep in mind we powder coat all calipers, we don't use thin liquid paint.
We also have experience with paint, and there is no paint that will come close to the durability of powder coat.

My Brembos were really bad so I decided to attack them myself.

The Girodisc were shot too so I put on a set of DBA 4000.
