New Rota DPT wheels in black! No haters allowed!!!
Rota DPT:
There seems to be a lot of controversy about Rota wheels... so being the nosey bastard I am, I looked into them and the stories myself. Thus far, the ONLY down side I could find was paint. Seems they used to use a crappy paint/paint process. Other than that, almost 100% of these crazy stories/pics on the net of the wheels "just breaking" at the track has been lies and conjecture. Meaning siding over curbs sideways and denying it afterward, brake caliper coming loose and getting caught in the wheel, and the such. Even then, a catastrophic failure seems to be a rare find.
They are 17x9 +35 with 255/40/17 Toyos weighing in a 45lbs even (all mounted up and balanced). That was 3 lbs a corner heavier than my OE wheels with the same size KDW2s that are completely bald (two of them corded). To me that is a wash, if not even an honest edge to the new setup had the KDW2s been new also. Then again, I've not checked the weight difference of the two tires. The car is dropped 20mm front and 15mm rear per GTWorx springs.
I don't believe in 18's or larger wheels. I'm all about function over form, and too damn old to care more about looks than go. For me, it's all about tire selection, and the extra travel afforded by the taller side walls afforded by my wheel/tire choice. My Evo catches air...
Additionally, there is 6mm of clearance between the calipers and the wheel at the closest point. The wheels have already caught air as mine usually do Seems to be ZERO rubbing anywhere.
Where they sat for a week cause the lug nuts had not come in
Garage roof top photos after some UPS delivered Splinedrive goodness!
Thus far I really like them... plenty of clearance, weight is good, and the brand seems to have an actual great track record by those who actually race on them. We will see as my car has already logged more take offs and landings than the Concord

My only issue with Rota is the fact that it's a "knock off" company. If they were to design there own products I would have no problem with them. When people complain about R&D they're referring to the fact that Rota "steals" it's designs from other companies.
Also, it's my opinion that the existence of Rota hurts the resale value of "better quality" wheels. I've sold Volk CE28n's and Advan RS's on this site over the last couple years. In both cases I had people lowballing me and stating how they could buy brand new Rota's in the same design for less then what I was asking for my one year old used wheels.
