wide body evo without a kit...

UPDATE: I put up a new site with pics and mods: www.mccomsey.net/evo

I got the car in April 2003 and it has had a hard life.

I wanted a new paint job and wider front and rear without a body kit. The car has 275 35 18 starspecs on for street duty now and I wanted to be able to run 295 30 18 hoosier r6's or maybe even 305's Road Race Engineering proved to be the solution. The owner Mike Welsh, has been worked amazing the fender magic and then put down a worthy finish with his paint guy. Not many people are aware of all of the shops capabilities. They can fabricate, manufacturer, paint etc. that distinguishes them from being just another vendor. Before RRE, he ran a body shop. Mike even scored me a new IX SE front bumper with SE lip. In addition, I recently put a new evo IX SE interior including door panels, carpet, seats in.

Results: Measuring the rear fenders, there is around a full inch of clearance on the side from where my previously severely rolled fenders started and 5 inches vertical travel wheel clearance gained- WITHOUT A BODY KIT! They completely reworked the metal in the quarter panels and door sill + holdouts for the bumper and managed to get the stock look I was looking for. Keep in mind that that I am running 275 35 18 Dunlop star specs that are really big for the size. I usually run 275 35 18 hoosiers for track duty and the dunlops were almost an inch wider than the hoosiers. All pics are with the starspecs. The front fenders gained a full plus 35mm while keeping stock fender lines only wider.

295's or 305's are coming.

Props to Road Race for all the hard work making miracle amounts of clearance from sheet metal and all the attention to detail as well as making the car stop and go as fast as it looks and muellerized for handling:

That is really nice.... I was thinking of picking up some 17X9 22 offset RPF1's but, I am concern that it wont clear the rear even with my rolled fenders.... Now I have a solution...

If you see the car, with the front fenders flared as much as they are, it would be pointing up if you mounted any lower really.

Here is a pic from 2004 evolutionm.net shootout where the car got 3rd:

stock fender= vertical side vs the bulbous new fender

Love the engine bay. Why ruin the theme with the battery?

I actually had the battery routed to the trunk but examining rolled evos led me to put it back to the front as the long cable is a lot of weight and a fire hazard if your car is seeing track duty.

random additional pics:

stock air box is strictly for show. Car runs carbon 4" intake with the stock airbox sitting pretty posing:

fiberglass garage copies extensively modified. That is the only significant glass on the whole car. the rear has almost no glass/bondo etc.
