2.0 build
AMS 2.0 build/ weird kelford,FP beehive problem
Some updates.
Over the past few weeks I have been noticing some oil consumption and a little blue smoke. I decided with my "need" to make more power and the fact I was well into the 70k mile range on the stock engine it was time for a little added protection.
On to the good stuff.
I found out my maf was just about to give out on me, good thing I caught #1

This is what I found when I pulled my igniton off, "lake evo"

I had signs of water in the tb and the piping. I can only guess that all the water is from the monsoon we had after pinks and all the large rivers running across the road on the SS.

Just one pic of the leaking valve seals.

Well at least it was still together, some wear but I didn't think it looked abnormal.

Found out why my valve seals were leaking!!

Now onto the new parts.
Other than my missing rear main seal bolts everything came back to me. No biggie they are just 10mm.

Note the block said evo 9, here is what it takes to run a 9 block in an 8

Thanks to Aaron for helping me get this beast on the stand.

Machined balance shaft.

Well, thats all I have until I get the head back.

Well I talked to T.H.E today about the head. To me it sounds as though I am very lucky to have taken it apart when I did. In addition to the vavle seals being destroyed he found several other possible issues.
The guides are badly worn and in need of replacement.
Another interesting thing he found and is assuming what led to the valve seal destruction is a possibility of coil bind.
He Did a test and only had a max of 10 thousands of an inch between the coils. Tomorrow Im going to call FP and get the specs on thier beehives to verify I didn't just get a bad batch.
The bottom of the retainers were polished from the contact with the valve seals and noted when replacing the guides he will drop them down 50 thousandths and that should solve the clearance issues in the future.
Im wondering what route I should go with on the spring issue. If the springs are up to spec, is 10 thousandths considered a safe amount of coil clearance at max lift to prevent coil bind in case of an over rev?
I have on occasion ran it to about 8k with the new springs and cams. Is this considered too high or this combo? Kelford 272/fp beehive with stock retainers. evo8
