CF hoods quality
Careful with the knock-offs Seibon and VIS. Some fit some don't. Here's link to one of my HKS Kansai CF hood posts -

seibon parts are CRAP. so are VIS. go with Chargespeed, HKS, C-West, Varis, or some other company. you get what you pay for. Seibon and VIS fit okay if you're lucky enough to get a good one, but the clear coats are crap.
Well even my C-west hood has yellow clear now and it's supposed to be a 1800 dollar hood. THe more expensive companies have better fitment for sure and if you take care of the clear it should be fine.
I would stay away from Seibon. My hood faded after 4 months and come to find out it wasnt a true carbon fiber hood. It is fiberglass with a carbon fiber top layer. Also the fitment was horrible. Stick with the stock hood I believe the weight gains are very minimal from the stock hood to a carbon one.
The true carbon fiber hoods are in the 1200$ + range not 500$ like the seibons.

This is what I experienced. The clear coat faded in 4 months.
Very few companies make full carbon parts. Most of the US made stuff is exactly what you described. A fiberglass part with carbon overlayed on top. These are obviously meant for show and should not have been a surprise.
