Spoiler Holes - a simple solution

To wing, or not to wing - That is the question.

One funny thing about us evo owners is we can't seem to make up our minds on keeping the wing, or going wingless. If you are anything like me, I seem to change my mind about every other week. Needless to say, I have been in the wingless mode lately, but since I will change my mind again, it doesn't make sense to permanently fill the holes.

I have found a simple solution for filling those holes temporarily, without them being an eyesore. I have seen evo owners try stickers, electrical tape, and custom metal sheets. Here is something that is uniform, easy, and cheap:

1. 3/4" sticky vinyl bumpers from home depot (about $3 for 8, you will need 7).

2. Prep them by leaving them on the sticky pad, lightly wipe them with thinner or rubbing alcohol.

3. Duplicolor spray paint will do the job. Unfortunately they don't supply a direct match for GG, so I just found one that looks close. Use multiple coats. Allow to dry before applying, or you will end up with a finger print.

4. Clean your trunk holes prior to applying the sticky. It should be clear of grime or any waxy residue. I could have done better removing the rust ring.

5. They are visible, but do not stick out like black holes. This picture is 3 weeks after application. The car has been driven, rained on, and washed. They still stick.

cool! Why not try to find something that can fit inside the hole? That way it wont be raised so much like that. Also, to me vinyl seems to be the way to go. It is wayyyyy thinner then those things you used so it is almost flat.

No matter what the hole needs to be capped from above to avoid rust from forming. Finding something to fit inside the hole would not create a water tight seal and keep the bare metal from being exposed.

Thin vinyl sheet would be a good solution if I one access to color matched vinyl and something to cut it symmetrically. The downside is that vinyl sheets tend to sink into the hole. I find these plugs are already symetrical, solid enough to maintain their own shape, and can be painted to color match. To each their own.

nice , but if you cut the vinyl with a razor blade in half to lower the height it would be golden.

OR you could go to your local vinyl store and get a small sheet and cut accordingly.

That looks really cool actually. My solution, since I have a white Evo was to tape behind the holes and use white outdoor caulk to fill in the holes. It fills in perfect and color matches, you can barely tell

Why not just go to a graphics shop/sign shop and buy adhesive vinyl the same color as the car? I did this with mine, its pretty hard to tell there was ever a spoiler there.

I've been thinking about removing my wing and using a strip of the 3m clear bra stuff to cover the holes.
