I've been doing alot of research on it and it looks like I can only import it as a race vehicle.

Not that it would really affect an enlisted person without housing expenses, but i'm curious.

I've heard about the license testing and the ownership of parking space requirements... but wasnt sure on the licensing taxes.

thanks for any input.
Here is some info for the price of car owning in japan, and it can be expensive. http://www.supermelf.com/japan/ajetd...k/chap1.html#c

I going to keep the the stockers and have them repaired. Thanks for the offer but I just couldn't see myself getting rid of them.

very nice brotha.. I lived in Oki for almost 5 years and owned a few cars there that I always wanted to bring back as well. I would say that you are going about it the best way possible. import taxes and regulations will absolutely kill you if you try and bring it back any other way. You will hear multiple stories of people getting something in, and some actually do.. legally.. but then you dont know of the others that spend, no kidding, $8-$10K for miscellaneous costs, just to see it get back on the boat and go bye bye back to where she came from. That's a fact. The numbers I posted are at the stateside port. That does not include any costs rendered from departed location.

Great pick-up and good luck gettin it back..

sweet pick up. i don't think its the best but that just my opinion. i had a VI and IV before i picked up my VIII. now i'm getting ready to move to the UK.......

i tried the whole import thing and in the end it was way more headache than I wanted to put up with.

I figured it was time for a little update. I just picked up my new EvoScan GPS/Datalogger, with Japan maps in english.

I also have an Evo IX oil Cooler (13 rows vs my current 9 row), a safety21 7pt cage, Buddy Club Spec II exhaust, and a Racetech Carbon/Kelvar race seat from a lightly used shop car all awaiting install. I know about the "cage," but I got it very cheap and its only for when/if I have to take pics of it as a race vehicle.

Here is the seat.

I'm still working importing it. I recently submitted a "Show and Display" exemption application. It's more of a fallback plan I decided to do while I was awaiting some paperwork from Mitsu (that I now have) for importing the car as a racing vehicle. I was told when submiting the Show and Display appl. it would likely be denied, but I'm still awaiting a decision on that. I will probably post a new thread when I get an answer. If they say no to that then I will start building it as an all out track car......but on a very limited budget

^^^ It's an RS model TME, they only have the base lancer interior. GSR's have the Tommi Makinen embroidered red interior.
