IX RS Halogen-HID

I figured I'd post this here for all the other owners not running HIDS in their RS's or anyone with Halogen projectors. The install was simple and I didn't run into any problems. The kit was a plug in play and everything worked upon initial startup. The output is great and it looks oem, anyone interested should look into this kit.

Kit/Car

2005 EVO RS VIII

DDM Tuning 4500k 9006 35W-75$
IX RS Headlights non-HID

Initial warm up

Full output

-if needed I can provide daytime pictures as soon as I get a chance.

I mounted them under the headlights on the flattest part, I used industrial glue and it is strong takes 5 minutes or so to dry. I did the same with the igniters as well but near the high beam bulbs.

Cuyacita-The kit was around 75$ check ddmtuning.com

Is it just a universal kit? I checked and couldn't find anything specific.

I like the way this dude described it... as a halogen HID Kit. There is absolutely no modification to the factory wiring. For all of you that are fed up with your standard projector headlights on anything less than an SE (RS+IX or VIII) can buy these. Even the dudes that have SE and above (MR) can buy a kit.

The Kit that this guy is referring to comes with ballasts and igniters as well as a new set of bulbs. Complete, everything that you will need to install the HID kit on your non HID vehicle. The Bulb simply plugs right into the projector housing (for the lows) or reflector (for the highs). Connect the bulb to the ballast and then connect the last harness to your original headlight Connector (the thing that snaps together with your original bulb. Then test your lights.

If they don’t fire the first time don’t worry. Just go back to the last connection that you made (the one from the ballast to the original headlight connector and separate it and turn one of them 180 degrees and snap it back together. I found that some light assemblies have reverse sensing and the reverse connection seems to make the lights work.

Then all you do is find a mounting point for the ballast and the igniter. I just zip tied all of it together. <<< The reason for the zip tie is that the first time I installed I just taped the ballast to the wheel well and then it came loose and slipped through a crack in the fender lining and scratched up my rims.
***Make sure you zip tie or use industrial glue to connect the ballast to something^^^Learn from my dumb mistake.

I plan on doing a better write up for these kits because it seems that people don’t seem to grasp the basics on HID kits. I have done my lows and highs and also my buddies genesis and my brothers lexus. Sorry for jacking the thread I just though a little more info was due. Cheers

Why didnt you go 55w? Its only a few more bucks and put the 35w kits to shame. FYI DDM ballasts are reverse polarity.

+1 on both points that you have made.....

It took me a day to realize that the EVO has "reverse polarity"

I personally went with the DDM 9006 55 Watt, 6000K kit....

I did as well, 55w 6000k. Color output is similar to a 5000k 35w. Perfect imo

I decided against 55w because I heard the difference wasn't all that great. After two days with them I love them. I came from an M3 with 5k in both lows and fogs and this kit was tons cheaper and the output isn't too far off.

thanks Chris for the clarification, I started this thread more to show cheaper alternatives. Also for the few like me that were unsure of converting from halogen bulbs to HIDS.

Should have done more research. The difference between 35w vs. 55w is night and day. Its comparable to halogen vs. 35w HID.

Regardless, it looks great and im sure your happy with the end result.
