Let us think about how to smoke the tail lights.
I went to walmart and bought 2 dollar reusable tint. Very flexible stuff. The way I did it was by leaving the clear blinker part clear, but tinting the rest of taillight. You gotta cut with an exacto knife to shape the tint. If i didnt lose my camera I could show you guys. Looks great and people think I painted them.
Problem solved.. This solution WILL work for anyone out there. The best thing about it is when you go for inspection you can just simply remove it then reapply it back on. We used this stuff on my freinds van and it looks just like regular tint. check it out
Im sure they even have it in a dark red tint for those who want the JDM tail light lok without having to paint over the lens.

Yeah the lights are on. I took this pic when i was going to sell them. They were worried you couldn't see the light through them. But as you can see visiblity is good on them. never got hasseled by the cops either(well for the taillights)
The problem is that the red shows when TURNED ON according to the picture and according to the product description. THis means it will give the car a decidedly blacked out look when they are off. The red won't show and it will look blacked out which can be percieved as extreme, especially by cops.
My body shop told me that taking the lense apart often results in condensation moisture making the car look like a bootleg 92 civic. So far, i don't see a clear answer that will provide the clean look of aftermarket lenses. Although I'm still searching.

is it possible to get a paint that simply won't darken it that much? or is it just that you have to change how you apply the paint?
we're mostly adults here... we should be able to figure this out!!

i tinted my taillights by mixing up a bit of black paint with a lot of clear binder... then i just put on more coats untill it was as dark as i wanted then i clearcoated it... it is shiny and black ... but permanent! and i made mine really black... no problems with the cops yet though. and it is really even no spots or anything.
