I know some of you guys just do your own job so I want to know what kind of spray paint I should get for my wheels. It really has to last a long time before needing another spray and these wheels will only be used for auto-x and pictures anyways so it won't be used as often.

 

I will check for you when I got out to the shed. If you search my name I painted my BBS's green about 6 months ago and they lasted all winter and all summer daily driven. Just make sure you put a couple coats of clear on them...

 

Best cheap stuff i've used is rustoleum wheel paint from autozone.

 

ot just get em powder coated. dont be cheap dude. please.

 

Dupli Color engine enamel is what I used.. ^^ Maybe he doesnt have the money to get them powder coated, it is pretty expensive.. And if you do it right the spray can will look good.. Ive had mine rattle canned for almost a year and when I wash them they look as good as when I painted them. People ask me all the time if they are powder coated and say they look so good then when I say I spray painted them they give me a look.. F**k them people do what makes you happy and dont worry about what other people think. They will look good if you take your time and do it right...

I did a set of wheels with engine enamel once..they never chipped or scratched at all. I did strip the old finish completely off though and then prime the wheels before painting and then use about 10 coats of clear before i was done.

 

Mine were rattle canned over 6 years ago and are just now to the point where they really are starting to fade and look ugly. Car was kept outside and daily driven. Over 100K miles on it now. And the only reason it's starting to flake off now on the inside of the rim is because brake fluid leaked onto a few of the wheels.

You'll be fine if you want to rattle can them. Just take your time.

 

Agree...You def have to sand the hell out of them and then prime them and you will be good...

I can't see the point in paying 200-300 dollars on a set of track wheels when you can put that money towards tires or gas. I can understand if he was to use the wheels for DD and not track wheels.

 

I've seen wheels that were spray painted look very nice. Only thing is if you half *** it, it won't look good or last long. I say a few six packs and a good clear weekend and you'll be fine.

 

I used Duplicolor wheel coating

 

I used rustoleum, but usually just get whatever comes in the color I want. Holding up fine. Didnt even need to clearcoat it. Just make sure to sand and primer them first
