CF Trunk for IX

Anyone know what the weight is of the wet vs dry CF? AMS says 8.5 lbs on the dry one.

Also a couple of questions:

1) Do these trunks come finished. If I wanted to leave them clear, would I have to put a clear coat on them for sun / weather protection?

2) Any problems with leaving the car outside? Sun? Snow? Rain?

Thanks!

It all depends where you get it from. Different products are made around different levels of quality..

I will say that the clear coat on most CF fades due to the sun.

You won't go wrong with AMS. You could also look into Do-Luck, or some of the smaller companies (I know there was someone in the NW Marketplace that was selling dry trunk lids, for example). Seibon also has dry trunk lids; try STM as I think they are a vendor.

As Remixx stated, you'd have to find out about the clear. I assume they would all come with a clear coat of some sort, though. question is the quality of said clear coat. Good luck!

I doubt there would be much difference from the wet and dry carbon. They all come cleared i believe. The biggest thing you'll have to worry about is the sun. You'll want to keep it waxed to help keep it from fading. It will last for a good amount of time if you take care of it. Once the clear fads just go get it recleared again and you go to rock again.

thanks for the link and input guys. I am just going to find a really nice outdoor cover for the car for now. I think that will help with the clear coat. Any recommendations?

Hi Shavim! Do-Luck has a great look with the 'duck tail' style trunk and I have never heard anyone say anything bad about them or say anything about fading...

typically dry CF doesn't require as much bracing (a lot of times, fiberglass) when fabricated, but there are some ridiculously light, wet CF trunks out there. I don't think my EvoDave wet CF trunk is any more than 8 lbs. I almost want to say Robi's is even lighter, but I can't remember.

Im not sure if I want a ducktail on there because I am getting an aeromotions wing put on so I dont want it to mess with the aerodynamics.

There is a shop somewhere in OR that makes their own trunk lids (lol, I said wings, previously). Search the NW Marketplace; he had the basic trunk lid (no duck bill) prototype that fit perfectly for sale a few months back. I don't think anyone bought it.
