i honestly dont think its bad to go a little into the cf you just can lose some of the texture. ive seen some people sand down into their cf on the wing when refinishing it and just cleared over it. u just gotta make sure everything is even, which is going to be the hardest part being as you cant use body filler to raise any low spots. make sure your using a higher grit sandpaper. im no expert though, just stating what ive seen. maybe someone else can chime in and help you.
