If your familiar with Diamond Audio speaks......

I have done quite a bit of reading online and decided that I would like to install Diamond Audio 6.5" speaks in my EVO. The other day I was talking to a guy that was the manager of a car audio shop and he told me that they were not reliable?!? He said that they used to sell them but they were some of the highest returned speakers he has ever sold. Have any of you had this experience with them or know of anyone that has? Damn man, I was just about ready to plunk down the $$ and now this guy has me worried a little. I realize he is probably telling me this **** so he can sell me some of his speakers(he recommonded Boston Acoustics Rally series)but I just wanted to get you guys opinions.
Thanks!!
John

Hey blonde,
Thanks for the reply. I didn't notice, did you install your Diamonds in your EVO? If so how did they fit? Was it a pain in the ***? Thanks for the info. By the way, he did say that they usually don't last but about 2-3yrs. I think he's full of it though.

Hi John,

they fit perfect in the evo with no spacers or anything like that. he might be right about their life span but i normally change speakers every 2 years or so to keep them "fresh"

also, keep in mind that every person has a different favorite for speakers. i love the diamond but most of my friends love the MB or the Boston. also, ask your friend about MOREL and FOCAL. the focal will be similar to the Diamond.

Blonde,
Which Diamonds did you get? I sure hope they will last longer than 2-3 yrs! I would imagine he is just trying to sell me the brand they carry. The reason I am leaning towards the Diamonds so much is because of the warm, smooth sound. I do not like bright or harsh speakers at all, very sensitive to that. I have the Infinity Kappa's in my Saleen and they are nice and clear but man can they get harsh when you start pouring to juice into em. So have you heard any of your friends Bostons, such as the Rally model? If so how were they? Thanks for your input.
John

PS-Love the Big Lebowski.............great flick!

hi john,

i have heard the bostons and didn't like them. i am just like you with the harsh and bright souns and that is why i also choose the diamonds. i have the diamond hex s600s with silk tweets and they are great. my next speaker would be the focal utopia which i also love.

Ive got the morels in Ill let you listen to. BTW I do find the factory tweet placement very good for a stock location. the image is ever so slightly lower than I would ideally prefer but overall excellent. Anyone else concur? BTW no way in hell Im getting a sub the 4 6.5" combo turned out really really well. Blonde I went over the specs on the JL 6w0 and they really arent suited for freeair apps
, I used my old IDQ chameleon 6.5" on the rear shelf (which also werent perfect for freeair but work out well (any farther away from the IDQ- JL will get too sloppy)

I have the rennesance (wr6, mr 55 (soft dome midrange ) and CR 103) Right now I am running the WR6 in the doors and some old JBL GTi titanium (that sound like silk domes) till I can get my a pillars fabbed up. I change tweets like socks I have at home the morels/JBL GTis/MBQ 19HC/ IDQ nx 30s. I picked them up over the years at great prices from friends/shops/ebay and thats what keeps me having a different character instead of changing all the time

You got the AL or silks? I can send you the JBLs in a month or two - I say those because they are quite unique in their character pretty undescribable. They never caught onto the sound circuit cause they wernet the most "revealing" or "dynamic" They remind me of old home stereo "quads" What they are is non fatiguing, a pleasure to listen to and a pleasure to crank- It weird they never really hurt or peirce

i have the silk domes right now and they are nice. however, i listen to a lot of punk music and sometimes they just don't bring out the right sound.
