99 Mirage -----> Evo 5 AWD conversion
I was kinda going through some parts yesterday. I dont know if its worth it or not to try and piece everything together instead of the front clip lol.
A shortblock, head, trans, tcase, rear diff, rear subframe, then the front body panels adds up pretty fast! haha I dont know if I wanna pay $7k for a front clip, I would def. look around more for a better priced one, especially one I could use the bumper and headlights lol.

I agree. Find one that you can use all the parts available on it. When I bought mine from Jack, he had my white one and a silver one for sale. He gave me my pick and told me it'd be $6k shipped for either one. I chose the white one because it had more mods, less miles, and I saw the evo7 valve cover. I just thought it had a valve cover swap but later found out that it had the Evo 7 long block, and a LSD RS tcase so I lucked out pretty good. Keep hunting. If I stumble across anything, I'll let you know
Herro,
Couple weeks ago, picked up a set of powdercoated X SE wheels

It has a 255/35/18 tire. Im glad the 255s do fit. Lots of people on MLR stated it wont fit. Funny part is, I think 265's would fit, maybe even 275's.
I recently picked up a portable steamer. Gonna take off the tint on the back windows. The loser stated over and over, it never got broken into. What a lie. Im still finding glass everywhere. Anyways, should be tuned within the next 2 weeks. I cant waiittt!

I'd love to have another Evo 5 and I'm sure it'd be a lot easier the second time around, but I just have no time these days so it'd probably take me a few years to complete the floorpan this time around lol. If I do another Evo, it'll probably be an Evo 3 build.
The FD is coming along okay. Got the engine in a few weeks back and should be getting the turbo and manifold bolted up shortly. I'll post up a couple pics when I get the chance. I haven't done a built thread for this one at all since I have no time to start one.
R32s are making it's way down from Canada, legally, so I may explore that option. I'd much rather own a r33 or r34, but I don't want to deal with the fear of owning a state titled skyline, and not one that's federally legal.
You're gonna have fun with the black, and I'm sure it'll sound bad ***! If there isn't too much 91 left, pull the drain plugs on the bottom of the fuel tank and make the switch back to e85 already lol. Is it e85 or are you guys on a e70 blend for the winter?
Funny you mention all of the countless PMs. I used to get SOOOO MANY pms, text messages, emails, phone calls, messenger pigeons, etc. of people wanting to know how to do the conversion, the costs, where to get parts, if I would sell them the car, you name it. I tried to list all of the places the parts were sourced from. They'd get all pumped about starting the conversion, and then complain about not being able to find a Mirage for under $1500. Then I would politely explain to them that if $1500 is too much to spend on the car, how do you plan on sinking another $10k into it lol. Of all the people that have PM'd me, I don't think a single one has started the conversion.

Lets check out this FD! Ive always been a fan of the body style, but dont have one clue on how the engine works lol. What size turbo goin on? I can only assume you have been postin on a FD forum?
A R32 would be pretty awesome. There is a couple of them running around Denver. I do prefer the R33 and 34 though. Styling is an amazing jump, much like how the FC and FD came about. I believe there is a R33 as well. Have not seen a 34 here at least. Seen one in Cali years ago.
The Black sounds badass now! Open filter. Sounds like a damn diesel spoolin up lol. We are on winter blend now, but I hear people have been testing around and have found around E85. The Western I went to, to fill a 5 gal jug stated it had E70 minimum. The local Evo crowd has stated most Western's run between E84-86 tested. E70 should be fine for the time being. With the weather still cold, Im sure it will easily boost 30 psi with no knock.
I would pull the drains but 2 problems: Car is still outside. And its been 10-30 degrees the past week lol. Originally I thought I would drain it all. Then realized I dont have any pan thin enough and thatll hold 3-6 gals. Im sure right now there is less than a gal. I drove it earlier this week till the light came on, and then some. I idle her everyday since its been really cold lately. Not only that, Im running close to 70/30 water to coolant.
Ya I get pulled over in gas stations, grocery stores, on the street. Have heard it all: trades, cash and trades, kidneys and livers.. even a cousin of a friend (which I have never met before) wanted to trade his 91 NSX, light mods, straight up. Highly desirable Evo thats for sure. Its kinda funny cause I would be in the same boat if I seen it lolol.
And ya if you cant afford the base car, or have the skills to assemble it, you are bankin on hopes and dreams. If everything was ideal for me, I would have wanted to tackle my own conversion. Being mainly I dont have a garage, it sure limits how in depth I could go. Hopefully the next months looks up on ideal houses. I dont care if its a shack.. I want a 2 car, tandem deep so all my tools and a lift can go in.
At some point Ill need to upgrade. I was going to use the MR BBS's that came on the car when I picked it up. But sadly, even though the weight is good, the width is not. I plan to 255s or 265s R compound at the track. So Ill need a different set of 17s thatll be 9 to 9.5' wide. And off the track, Ill prob just use the BBS's. Itll be posted on CoEvo first so Ill let you know when the time comes.
If/when I start this conversion, I plan on spending a decent amount to get a good CLEAN mirage from the start. Prolly gonna look in the southern states so I can get one rust free, then have it shipped here lol. Working under the car with everything, last thing I wanna deal with is rust lol.
Hahha ya. I think Alex originally posted it on Coloradoevo. The ad was up for 30 mins before I told him I would take them. In that time he must have posted on CL as well. I wanted to originally buy these from Migs, but like you, they were sold almost instantly to Alex as I shootin PMs to him.

JTSi - Thanks man!
So I found a house and closing on it in 3 weeks or so! Woohoo. Somewhat of a shack but with a 3 car garage. May have to mod the roof rails a little to clear the lift height. Sadly, a 2 post short lift wont fit. So Ive opted for a 4 post ramp type. Regardless which lift, I can finally pull the motor and get it built here soon. With my trip coming up in June, I want to at very least have the motor pulled and in the process of being built in late Spring. As with the transfer case, transmission, and rear end. Im hoping to race the car in July when I get back from Vietnam.
While we were tuning the car, I had an issue with the PCV barb blowing off the cap that was there. Tom suggested to remove the catch can and return the PCV to stock. I ordered all the OEM PCV pieces and they should be here next week or so. I did get one clean 3rd gear pull, with ultra richness in the middle (10.1 afr from 4k to 7k), still managed 391whp/365wtq. Boost comes on clean and held 26 psi across the board. Im certain Tom will be able to milk out 450ish whp/390wtq with the same boost by cleaning up the afrs. At 30-32 psi Im sure the goal of 500whp will be more than possible. Also boost comes on strong around 3600rpm and is full boosting right at 4k. I didnt think it was possible for a stock 2.0L. Should be pretty awesome once its done.
Later fellas, Rich
Hey Huy, you can use that spark plug if you want. Keep in mind the 8 signifies its one step cooler. I seen a few threads mentioning you want to run stock or one step hotter than stock for E85, if you are running corn. Otherwise the 8's would be wise for regular gas.
BPR7EIX is stock Iridium

That's so unfair...
I could not buy the car from you originally and you would not give me the info on the guy that bought it from you so I could ask him to give me dibs if he decided to sell....
Oh well -_- At least Im happy to see that you are still helping others even though you are out of the build.
I can't believe I missed this! I came back from deployment exactly when you posted for sale. I would've sold my Evo 8 to by this man
. But it happens maybe one day I'll build one when I get out of the Army and go back home and have my own house.
