Baked em in the oven, and separated the plastic using an exacto and butter knives. This is the hardest part.

Nice work. looks very professional.

I think I'm gonna do mine this weekend. How long did you "bake" them and on what temp.?

Oh yea, any specific type of paint?

Thanks in advance. Jason

I worked on little sections at a time, sticking it back in the oven when it got too cool to work with. I started at the sharpest corner with an exacto heated by a flame. Once you get it to start separating it's a little easier, but I still had occasional hairline cracking of the clear plastic. Can't see the cracks now that it's re-sealed. The last one took about 7 times in the oven before I was done.

I kept the oven at about 225, keeping the tails in for no longer than 15 min. I roughed up the shiny part with a 320 grit sanding sponge, about 10 minutes of sanding per light. Hope it stands up to the heat and sun out here. Here's the paint, I used primer and paint- not sure if the primer was necessary....

Well done!! very nice. The X-acto knife is the trick, rite? Well, another advice. Leave the chrome part intact and masking tape the red lense. Removing and replacing the chrome part is a *****! Good luck everybody!!! I'm sure the Evo VII tailights prices is going to drop like hell!! Just remember, I did it 1st! lol. please post more pic and experiences. It would be nice to learn more.

Yep, you gave me the confidence to try it.

MalibuJack,
Man, I don't think I would want to be liable for doing this to anyone elses lights. If I had an accident and screwed up, I would hate to have to buy a new set, plus it takes forever...lots of labor.

I did that on my 2000 Celica GTS headlights and I was thinking of doing it on the evo but I didn't know if it would look right. Looks like I'm going to do it since they look nice on your guys cars.
