Dash Bezel ac vent replaced with Gauges
Dash Bezel ac vent replaced with Gauges
*****UPDATE 2nd Version in POST 10*****

I made this with card board and carbon fiber dinoc. Its a temporary setup to see how it turns out. If I make the final product it will either be out of plastic, aluminum, or carbon fiber plate. But I will make it so it doesnt slant up but rather at a right angle (Straight up). Also I plugged the vent with Styrofoam wrapped with aluminum.
Now why have Vendors not made this???!!! Either something like this or a complete new molded bezel.
I've seen couple pics of custom ones made in different threads but no production pieces.

I feel this is the optimum spot to have the gauges. The A pillar blocks part of the corner from making left turns or pedestrians at the corner. The gauges at the Radio spot is a tad too low to glance down at and the rexpeed dash pod is too high to the wind shield.
The "carbon" pattern is horizontal as apposed to the pattern on the bezel (diagonal). I didnt have much carbon fiber dinoc left so I had to put it on that way. But like I said its temporary especially for being made out of cardboard

Well after running the first concept I learned a few things. The driver side vent is actually more useful than I thought if you live in areas where it gets pretty cold. The steering wheel gets cold and the window side vent takes care of your left hand but you would need the center vent to warm up your right hand. Passengers are ok and still benefit with one vent on their side.
So I made another one, this time with utilizing the driver ac/heater vent. I was able to angle it more up right than the picture portrays the gauges to be. I've been driving with it for a week now and do not have any glare issues. Also fitting 2 gauges would not allow enough space to attach the time clock but I got the hazard button on.
I really like this setup for the following reasons:
- The gauges location are perfect in which when you glance over to read them, the road is still in your eye view.
-The gauges are not blocking the windshield view like the dash gauges do.
-You can still run the oem radio location or use double din. Also I've tried running gauges in place of the oem radio location and its a little too low.
-A pillar gauges disrupt the view a little for left hand turns. Sometimes it makes it difficult to notice the intentions of pedestrians or on coming traffic during left truns .
Let me know what you guys think. Again its made of cardboard covered with 3M dinoc "carbon fiber " .

the last one is the best idea, especially if you can modify the vent piping two into that one..
You should also make one reversed and put the gauges closer to the driver, just a thought.

I was playing around with the idea of having the gauges closer to the driver as well. The way I made it would be the optimum spot for the gauges. If I put them on the driver side vent spot at certain angles the corner half of the gauge gets blocked by the steering wheel. The pov also depends on the drivers height. I'm ~5'7 - 5'8 so this was optimum for me. Also the closer heater vent would help with warming my hand on the cold steering wheel. I dont like heat blowing in my face so as soon as my hands are warm, its back to just the feet or partial window and feet.
Actually to clarify, its my hand that gets in the way of the gauge if I put them on the driver side vent spot.
