But I'm working on the how to right now.
Mine. Thanks BADEVO. The theatrical gels ended up working, but I had to use two layers:

Hey guys I have a question.....I did this mod using the lens from one of my flashlights. I put the red lense in and the display was red during the day, but when I turned on my lights at night the display could not be seen because it was too dark. The pics you guys have, are those with or without your lights on? I am curious to see whether the lense was too thick, or if this is common. Thanks!
I don't know what BADEVO used, but a whole plastic lens is probably pretty thick. Mine shows up great even in the daytime, when the clock is brighter, and is still visible at night.
If you look at the left side of my clock pic, that's taken at night with the console lights on, and a flash, and it's still pretty visible...
Go to a store that sells spotlights or lighting equipment, and ask about "red theatrical gel". It's an acetate film (like overhead projector sheets) that goes over spotlights, and is not as thick as a flashlight lens.

I tried using 3M red light tape (the stuff you use to patch up your taillights if they're busted). It's what I used for my console, but it didn't work in the clock. Instead, the tape sort of absorbed the light, and made the whole LCD area kind of a fuzzy red. I guess overhead projector film doesn't absorb the light, just filters it... hmm, any chain stores that might carry this stuff? Or maybe I can just look for red overhead projector sheets?
