For real. I hate cops that just write tickets for stupid **** like this. I'm sorry, but that's not a real police officer. They should be looking for the real bad guys. Since thev a ticket quota they need to make sure they keep there jobs right. Bull ****.

Anyway go with Passport 8500. The only reason V1 may be better is that it tells you where the radar is coming from. Otherwise the Passport has a lower false alart reading. Plus Passport is cheaper and is a smaller unit to display.

the way i figure... if the city or town does not require so much patrol officers, then they throw the rest of the cops into traffic enforcement for money. well no point of just letting them sit around and play poker, nor can they 'lend' them out to other town/cities.... you look at big cities with real crime and you dont really see traffic officers on a big scale... on the other hand, you see alot in small and quiet towns

*****ing about the cops is not going to address the issue of the post.... Also, if you want cops to stop writing tickets please select wich tax you would like to increase to offset the loss of revenue

Well I just wrote a long reply about the dangers and reason for tickets but the post would not post so I lost it.

To sum it up a little here it goes.

The follow applies to me personally

Tickets are for idots who dont admit they were speeding and who I dont beleive will slow down with a warning.

I have no quota for how many tickets and I could care less how many I write. ie I wrote about 3 last month!

Traffic stops are very dangerous. I dont know who Im dealing with and I have to watch the driver and other passengers of the vehicle and I have to watch the idot drivers on the road so they dont hit me.

Anyways my job is mostly responding to calls like assaults, thefts, and everything else. I only run traffic when a complaint has been called in or I have nothing else to do.

Please dont comment on how dangerous my job is unless you have been in Law Enforcement and know first hand what I deal with everyday!

Its funny - I have two friends that are cops. Both refer to everyone else as idiots. One of them tried crossing the US-Canadian border with his gun and no badge. He spent a night in jail for impersonating an officer at the border. The other one shoots at road signs and stray dogs.

Its too bad police can't identify drivers based on skill level. Of course, if there is an idiot with no driving skill hauling a$$, talking on his cell phone he should be taken care of so as not to repeat. People with good skills, quick reaction time, and concentration can drive faster in most situations while maintaining a high level of safety. My problem is that police don't seem to acknowledge people that know how to be safe in any driving condition. All of the laws are geared towards the biggest idiot.

Even though there are several posts about THIS VERY THING already......you can't go wrong with either the Passport 8500 or the Valentine V1. Both are top-notch radar detectors. If you really want to spend some money, Passport has a laser jammer with stealth installed sensors outside the car. It's upwards of 1000 though. I use the 8500 and love it. No tickets yet........knock on wood

I'm originally from the UK and they aren't really popular there (probably as they're kind of illegal) so I didn't know much about them. I read a whole load of reviews and in the end I decided there was nothing to choose between the V1 and the Passport 8500. In the end I bought the Passport as it was easier to get hold of and cheaper. So far it's seems to have been great = no tickets.

Having said that, I've been driving an s2k for the last 3 years with no radar detector and no tickets either. I'm still not sure why I now decided to buy a detector. I guess sometimes you drive a bit faster than you would normally do, and as someone else said I don't want to be nabbed just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Basically you need to drive at a speed appropriate to the environment, meaning that driving at high speed in urban areas and around schools is not the same thing as driving alone along a road in the middle of nowhere.

Clearly the type of car being driven and the competence of the driver are also key factors but it's kind of hard to legislate for that.
As already noted, and in my experience, the best thing if stopped for speeding is to take responsibility for your actions and be polite and respectful to the officer (who is definitely doing a dangerous job)...

Regarding the comments about speeding from the policeman and others: I can appreciate very much the dufficulty and risk that is involved in law-enforcement work. But...I'm going to speed anyway. Ilove taking the evo on the back roads in the sierra foot hill and in the bay area, and I love getting from Sacramento to portland (safely and smoothly) in 6 hours as well. Speed does not alweays equal danger. I can only do a few track days a year at this point, but still like to enjoy the power handling, and accelleration of my car...thats why I love my bell vector 985.
