need a radar. suggestions????
V-1 !! It tells you so much about what's going on around you. For example, you're cruising along 10 mph over posted limit, the back arrow comes on, you just step it up 2 mph because you know the threat is behind you. Basically, you distance yourself from the source. Opposite if arrow points ahead of course. People who own V-1's know you can even tell when a threat goes by because the arrows change direction. The V-1 also comes with extra suction cups, all the wiring required to direct-wire the unit into a switched lead and they stand behind their warranty. Top notch product. I also had one stolen & ordered a new one the same day. Borrow a buddies and you'll be sold.
I got the Passport 8500 which is rated much better then the V1

Actually, I could have probably went with the:
BEL 940
BEL 960
BEL 985
All these are rated top notch except for Laser sensitivity which is pretty much useless since by the time you get a laser alert you are already toast
These all perform as well or better than the V1 for a fraction of the cost

It's tough to beat directional radar detection, until you use it and understand how to use it, you're almost in the dark with detection. It ok to know there's a bogey out there (somewhere), but excellent to know where it is and take appropriate action.

It's a good, amusing read to hear the dirt thrown back and forth by that site and Valentine. It's an old test IIRC that placed the V1 below the others.

Still, the tests are valid and deductions can be made from them. Personally, I was ready to buy the V1, hook line and sinker. One friend even let me borrow his but he said it was not working right and that he had sent it back but needed more work,
He said that they (Valentine) are great, great warranty, yadda , yadda.... I had so many ppl tell me how great it was, etc. Finally I was convinced. Well, I bougth one and tried it..... Short story, I sent it back and I got a Passport 8500 which I prefer immensely over the V1. I don't care where a radar source is located because when the Passport detects them, they are almost always a threat ahead or behind. The biggest problem with the V1 I tested was that it reported so many false alarms that I finally had to turn it off to keep it from driving me crazy or ignoring valid threats
If you are willing to just get a good, usable, effective solution for a lot less money, the V1 is not the answer. There are several excellent radar detectors out there for just over $100 that will work just fine. Of course, there are lots of p.o.s. radar detectors out there, caveat emptor.... Read reviews, do your homework, high price is no a measure of high quality or effectiveness....
