If you went with a win 8 tablet with the correct accessories it would charge in the same way as an iPad. With Win 8 pro you could run all the current tuning software as opposed to waiting until whenever folks port the tools to iOS (been talked about for years but nothing to show yet). The issue you run into is that the win 8 devices don't have a standard size so just like android you'd need to pick one form factor and stick with that. That's the only advantage I really see to doing this with an iPad now since the form factors are known making the kit easier to produce.
