Which would you prefer? I feel like plastidip has stepped there game up and offers a big variety of colors being from matte or gloss etc etc. I can't see why anyone would pay the insane going amount for vinyl when its not a real paint job yet cost about the same and isn't permanent. To me plastidipping is a better alternative. Has anyone vinyl wrapped there own car?

 

Plastidip looks ok, until you get up close and look at it. Having it professionally wrapped should look much much better. It really goes along with the saying "you get what you pay for". Ive also seen/heard horror stories about plastidip leaving a nasty residue on the paint and even ruining the finish. I dont know about it first hand, however.

 

Depends what you are using it for. For a track car I'd dip it and unless you are really familiar with it I'd have a company do it because they will seal your paint properly. i know of a guy in the twin cities doing gtr's and whatnot for about 700. In my opinion if you are just doing a flat color I wouldn't waste the $$ on vinyl. If you have some crazy designs in mind vinyl is where it is at though. And much like the dip if you don't have any experience wrapping the vinyl won't likely come out perfect. With most things in life you have to pay to play.

 

Most people doing vinyls are paying like 3-5k. That's crazy to me. It's not a paint job laughing out loud. I've done plastidip with cans and didn't lay it on thick enough. It was a horror story. To put it simple.....2 weeks to remove.

 

Plastidip takes preparation but most people can do that. I have seen plastidip paint jobs up close. In terms of appearance they are not on the same level as a vinyl wrap. The problem is that if the layer is thin its really easy to chip. Not recommended for an Evo that is daily driven.

A well done plastidip looks really good. I consoder it on par with vinyl and at the end of the day, there both a form of wrapping/protecting, neither is permanent, bith can easily get ruined, therefore $300 plastidip>$3-5k vinyl IMO

 

I have plasti dipped wheels for the track. I think they look great!

 

Kind of a dumb question but which is lighter? I would guess Plasti is the lighter option. SO I vote for that.

 

Plasti dip. Because its quicker to do. Vinyl for a more refined finished...

Plastidip is WAYYY lighter. I don't see how someone can say it looks cheap unless it was a chopped rattle can job. There's some nicelookingndipped Evos in the plastidip thread.
