De Wing / De Bling - good or bad? Review inside
The lightweight carbon VIS trunk lid was too tempting to pass up when I found out how light it was, I bought it from Vivid Racing - (great service as usual)
I had it sitting in my office for several months collecting dust until the start of the drag season - decided it was time to shed some weight
My rough estimate is 30 - 35 lbs less weight on the trunk minus the wing
I figured I would try it with out the wing first
Installation was basic, but the lid will reuire a body man to adjust it to fit - the hinges must be bent slightly
I cut one of the spring rods off and its perfectly balanced and stays open
It was nice to have an open view out my rear window
Now for the interesting part - on LOW speeds - the handling is obviously greatly improved b/c of the less weight which is up high, you can really feel the lower mass in the ***
But on HIGH speeds - the car is NOT as good. Now it feels front heavy - like a front wheel drive car
The wing balances out the car on the highway - it was amazing to feel the before and after - the wing just gives the car a more balanced and "bigger" feel down the highway at crusing speed
Finally - at the drag strip I saw ZERO gains from not having the wing on - it simply does not effect the speed
In conclusion, I would say that de-winging is good for auto cross but bad for anything else

did you try relocating the battery to the trunk, what are the pros and cons for doing that, well one pro is the balance, I dunno about the rest,
btw: very good advice for people who think the wing is there only for the bling/bling factor

Moving to show and shine forum. Since this product is not related to the Dynoflash product in any way, it is not appropriate subject matter for the Dynoflash vendor tech forum.
Yes, I realize Al will not be able to post to this thread now that it is no longer in his forum. But unfortunately, rules are rules. My other choice was to delete. But I didn't do that because I saw value in this threads content.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Can anyone tell me a little mroe about moving the battery to the trunk? I understand it will put more weight on the rear of the car, but how much would it cost and all?

I saw AL's Evo at the Nathans meet. That Silver Evo looks awesome, with the wingless CF trunk...AWESOME.
I never thought a wingless Evo would look good.....but that ride was straight siiiiiiiiiiiiiick!
I think i have a pic stored in my digi'...I'll check tonight.
