Hello EvoM. I was wondering if anyone had any tips of how to properly powder coat a valve cover without the risk of debris getting in the motor?

I have been talking to one person who said they do it and remove the baffles, while sanding/powder coating. Would this be enough?

If you are going to powder coat absolutely remove the baffles to properly clean. I made the mistake of not doing this and it cost me a motor.

 

Anything else more that can be done other than taking out the baffles during sanding/powder coating?

 

And this possible problem is exactly why I decided to go with the Frontline Fab billet valve cover.

Nope, that should be all that's needed. Just wash it real well after sandblasting with a couple of runs in a dishwasher and/or a chem wash. Then put the baffles back in.

 

The easy way is to repaint the valve cover. Just make sure to mask off everything well and repaint it. That way you don't have to worry about particles going into the baffles.

 

Just don't sand blast it. Use a chemical stripper to remove the old coating. I had mine powder coated and removed the baffles to properly clean it once I got it back. No matter how throughly they wash and rinse it you'll be surprised as to how much blasting material is still left behind inside the baffles.

 

I have done multiple covers just by running a pressured parts cleaner through the covers and using an air gun to blast anything out. I tape everything off before hand so nothing can get inside the baffles. They have to be extremely clean in the first place as in no oil residue inside it anywhere. I don't use a regular media either. However I wouldn't recommend doing this to anyone else but I have never have had a issue.

 

Just pay the extra money to get it professionally painted by someone who has done it before, instead of ruining your engine which would come out way more expensive
