Rio Karma MP3 Player Hardwire

Not sure if this would be useful to any of you, but I'd thought I'd share anyhow. I posted this on a karma board as well.

THE INSTALL:

I ended up using the car charger that's in Walmart @ the 4.5 volt setting. While I was there I also bought an "Auxillary 12 volt Power Port" for 4 bucks. This auxillary port thingy is simply cord containing a female cig. lighter at one end and at the other, a connector that is designed to fit into trailor connectors. I bought this because I didn't want to cut the wires on the car charger itself. Plus, this kept a fuse (found in the car charger) inline to protect my Karma.

Anyhow, I cut the trailor connector end, tapped the + line to my HU, and grounded the other. (I tapped the 12 volt switch power from the headunit (RED I believe), and grounded to a bolt on the chasis) My HU has an aux in, so I ran some RCA cables as well.

After that I just fabbed up some place to mount the dock, and the install was complete.

Here are some pictures:

You can see the car charger unit as well as my RCA cables running down from above.

Here is another picture of them with the center console now replaced.

Karma attached, as well as the slightly modified ashtray (to accomodate for the wiring and to provide some cushioning for the unit).

Final look at it all.

Full interior shot.

Appreciate the compliments. The gauge pillar is LancerShop's (just browse their webiste, it's really easy to find). The gauges are Defi D-series gauges, black faced w/out the black bezel. Matches the silver/grey tones in the car nicely.

Yeah, me and syrihl did his car and mine. We did his car first, and he helped me out on the particulars (running the wires and whatnot). It took a whie, but in the end it was worth it.
