Clear Coat on Carbon Fiber Rear Wing
Clear Coat on Carbon Fiber Rear Wing
Hi guys,
Just a FYI, the clear coat on the EVO 8's carbon fiber rear wing is not very "bird sh*t" (Yes, that's a technical term) resistant.
I had washed my car this Sunday, left it out in the sun for about 3 hours, I noticed the bird sh*t on the rear wing and move the car into the garage to let the paint cool off, and then I washed it off and found minor pitting in the clear coat!
With a lot of elbow grease, I was finally able to compound most of it out.
I would strongly recommend always having a couple of coats of good wax on the wing at all times.

Ive had my car for about 2 months now...and the clearcoat is really starting to **** me off. I'm **** about having my car clean all the time, and the weak *** clearcoat is not helpin me out. I'm thinkin of getting it re-clearcoated.
instead of spraying it with clear coats.....try to get your car professional paint sealant done... a friend of mine owns a detailing shop, and did it for me......my car shines brighter than newer cars......just my .02

What I would do is:
Remove the current clear coat by sanding with 500-600 grit wet sandpaper. Then apply about 4 new clear coats (let it dry for 12 hrs or so) then sand it with 1000 grit, 1200 grit, 1500 grit. For the final sanding, use 2000-2500 grit (wet sandpaper) or 3000 grit until the shine comes out but be carefull not to sand it really hard cuz the original surface might get sanded. By the way, the sandpapers needs to be soaked on the water for about 15 minutes before using. Also, add a small amount of car wash shampoo. After sanding, let it dry and apply a rubbing compound to remove the blemishes or small cuts.
I think I have enough knowledge about this cuz I painted my body kit and I saved $$$$.hehe.

i may not have a evo, but my dad works for a dealership.... and has been for last 14 years.... for every car we have, instead of wax, we use a sealant.. its a silicon base... u use it like wax... works alot better and keeps it cleaner.
