Car Wash Question

Hi,

I just bought a new Blue Evo and was planning on washing and waxing the car myself this weekend.

I just have one question concerning the hood.

Has anyone had any problems with water getting into the engine (or too much water)?

Does anyone cover the opening on the hood of the car?

Do I need to take any special precautions when washing my new Evo?

Also does anyone use any wax or polish on the carbon fiber portion of the rear spoiler. If so any recomendations.

Thanks,

I've been using Meguiar's liquid wax for the whole car and it seems to work pretty well, it gives the car that nice glossy look when its dry. The only special precaution that I would be aware of is avoid any type of abrasion to keep the clearcoat in as good of condition as possible.

I wouldn't worry about water in the engine unlesss it is super hot. Also, I wouldn't wax the carbon fiber, I've heard bad things about it.

Don't wash your car right after driving it. You can warp the manifold and the rotors if you get too much water on them when they are still hot.

I wouldn't worry about covering up your vent, the water won't hurt it. I just don't wash it when it is HOT .

I put a towel under the hood just to keep the water off, it will not hurt it but i keep my engine clean and it prevents water spots.

I too wax my CF wing. Everything I've read about CF is to use a good wax with UV protection and it shouldn't get yellow.

The manufacture recommends using uv protective wax on the carbon fiber to keep it from changing colors.

I also put a towel in the engine bay when I wash my car, right around the exhaust manifold. It is always wet after I'm done washing the car.

Water will not hurt anything in the engine bay unless you put your air filter in a bucket of water and floor the gas pedal. Using wax on the cf will not hurt it but you can use special stuff if you want.
