Project "EGO KLLR"- 2.3L HTA 35r fun
It all started 15 months ago when I bought this Evo IX...November '07. Since then it's been exactly what i've wanted...fast in a straight line, fast through the turns, and comfortable enough to be a daily driver....all on PUMP gas. The car made over 500whp on daily basis on pump gas and did not falter. Trip after trip to the track it ran consistent 11.1s at 127-128 with my horrible 1.7-1.8 60's.
It went from bone stock to it's current setup in about 6 months... JMF intercooler piping JMF custom Garrett cored FMIC JMF SMIM JMF tubular exhaust manifold HTA 35r GSC S2 cams Cosworth HG ARP L19s Supertech 1mm oversized valves Supertech dual valve springs HKS Carbon 3" turbo back FIC 1150s Bosch 044 Quartermaster twin disc KW Variant 3 coilovers 5 Zigen 17*9.5 w/ Dunlop Direzza Z1 tires etc, etc, etc. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...dsm/EVO005.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...m/IMG_4381.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...dsm/Evo029.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...dsm/Evo045.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...m/IMG_1096.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2.../evo331241.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...m/IMG_0813.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...m/IMG_0816.jpg |
One fateful day 5 months ago this all came to an end. After a trip to the track a loud rattling sound developed after a run...we all thought it was a spun bearing...which I would not have been surprised by considering I was spinning the motor to 9k on a stock motor. Once I tore it down, a different culprit revealed itself; an improperly tensioned timing belt led to 15 bent valves and 1 broken one leaving some decent carnage behind.
This is what has led me to my newest project... Over the past couple weeks I have been collecting the parts I need to get my baby back on the road. This time 500whp will not be enough. The goal...600whp...daily driven on pump gas. My other main goal is to have somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 ft/lbs. This time around, i'm ditching the tried and true 2.0L and going with a 2.3L. I've always been a proponent of the 2.0L but I want to try something new! The new build will consist of these main components... Wiseco HD stroker pistons Crower rods Eagle stroker crank GSC CNC'd head w/ all of Greg's new hotness Shep Trans w/ 4.11 final drive Ceramic coated exhaust manifold Powdercoated EVERYTHING in the engine bay Along with the new engine setup, i'm also giving the exterior a bit of an overhaul... 18x10 wheels from CCW that have yet to be seen from them- *STAY TUNED* :D APR front splitter Rexpeed side skirt extensions Rexpeed JDM rear extensions On to some pics of the current carnage... http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...m/IMG_0096.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...m/IMG_0099.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...m/IMG_0103.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...m/IMG_0101.jpg If all goes well the Evo should be back on the road by the end of March. A quick break in and then a trip to the dyno in DC for another Brad Brooks tune. Till next time...stay tuned. |

I know how you feel in 07 I blew my 2.0 motor with 548whp I ran out of alky at 30 lbs of boost, replaced it with a 2.3.
Then a deer hit my car, at 65mph I went for a spin bumping off guard rails. Luckly it wasn't too bad. Then in 08 I trashed my 6 spd Tranny, and got a shep Tranny. It's always in the shop getting something new or tweaked, I'm looking forward to just enjoying it for awhile. without parts breaking. I'm upgrading to 700+ hp so I know there will be new issues down the road. I hope your back on the road soon I can understand how you miss it!! |
wow thats crazy

That #2 cylinder is the hotness... lol... just kidding.
Can't wait to see that thing at some of the up coming meets in the spring. Good luck with the build. Hopefully everything will go nice and smooth from now on. That thing is going to be a total beast when it's done. |
Sorry to dissapoint, Mat. :) I'll have some updates this week as some more parts arrive. I actually changed up the wheel selection I originally planned....got an amazing offer that I couldn't pass up from John at CCW.
Thanks for the positive comments guys! Can't wait to get it done, broken in, and back to the track. |
