Some pics of my FFTEC fab'd roll bar UPDATED 6/14/09

Well thought i'd share some pics of the progress on my Evo9.

We only have 2 drag strips around my area and have to some times travel 2 hrs each way and they have been pretty easy on me so far but i don't want to push my luck so i'm installing a custom 5 point roll bar.

My car is what i consider a street/strip evo and am making the bar legal so that i can race this season up to 10.0 or 135mph.

The car has gone 137 mph on race gas and 10.45 but both were not great passes by any means however the car will be on E85 for the rest of the year in hopes of keeping it right at low 10's and 135mph.

I'll update things as it gets closer to completion {thumbup}

Please understand we are not by an means a chassis fabrication shop but we do all our own in house fab work w/ the help from my boys Jesse&Sean and friends like Chris&Steve.

Oh well on with the pics if you have any questions lmk.

6x6" plate to bolt main hoop so that i have the chance to expand to a full cage or remove if i decide to sell the car and buyer does not want it....

All level

Here's most of it tacked in place

Here are some up close pics of the clearance in the trunk w/ the cross bars that close the trunk and the rear bars

Rear mounts in trunk w/ 6x6" plates tacked and welded this time for ease of install and i can always cover w/ trunk carpet if sold once again

Now a couple shots from outside sorry for dirt and poor quality photos

That's it for now i will update and add pics as we go along.

Right now it's getting some semi-gloss black paint and just awaiting the swing out kit from Chris Alston chassis works to finish up the door bar and off to the races we go!

Let us know what you think......thanks for looking.

What's with the hole saw? I cringed when I saw that picture.

Nicely done either way but why the skinny girth on the bar?

Can't see the pics, but hole saws can be used for tube notching.

:lol: Trust me i too had major reservations about cutting into my Evo however it allows for a couple things. And they are completely covered by the 6x6 plates on top and bottom along with the carpet so you won't even know they are there ;)

1 - To get the main hoop as tight to the headliner as possible it allows us to drop the main hoop bars down through the floor to make the appropriate measurements.

2 - Allows us once again to drop the main hoop down so that we can finish the welds on the top side where the rear bars mount to the main hoop (you can see the pic of the tack welded rear bar to hoop above).

3 - It will allow me if in the future if i decide to run a full 10 point cage to once again lower the hoop down to add the halo and a-pillar bars while retaining the rear section :D

When using 4130 chromoly you are allowed to use 1 5/8" / .083 material vs DOM stuff.

Lighterweight = :headbang:

Yes you can use a jig and hole saw for coping the bars however my good buddy and fab guy Jesse likes to do all his coping by way of angle grinder and file especially in those places where you can't just "fish-mouth" them :apimp:

It's nice to see people using the old school Hosfeld. Looks like it came out pretty good. CNC benders eat your heart out.
