hey just wondering if getting 18x9.5 wheels would slow down the car? cus im thinking of getting 9.5 wide rims cus some one is selling a set of rims cheap... I really dont want to loose any speed due to traction so i was just wondering if its true and if going 18x9.5 makes u get slower by a lot. Thanks

First of all, be sure that the offset is correct on the set of rims you are purchasing, otherwise the point is moot. Furthermore, depending on your suspension setup, they may rub pretty bad being that they are wider then stock. More to your point as the rims are larger than stock, and presumably heavier, you will likely notice a slight loss in wheel horsepower due to the engine having to turn more weight, nothing really noticeable though. Handling will likely increase substantially, and the way your ride looks may be worth quite enough by itself. I highly doubt that you would lose any power due to friction of the greater tread contact patch, though I'm sure if you are a physics professor, there are some kinematic equations available to dispute the point. All in all, if the price is right, the offset correct, and they look sweet.... hook it up

yep offset is right cus its 35mm but im using tein s techs so im not sure if it will rub

If you increase the diameter of your overall tire/wheel size, then yes you do make your car slower. The wheel is moving less distance than stock for a full rotation so you're in a sense decreasing the torque. Also another sideaffect to take note of is your speedo. I haven't gone figuring out how much of a difference my new set-up does, but all you need to do is just get the circumference of the stock set-up and your new one or you can use GPS. In most cases, I believe stock speedometers are usually over-embellished so in essence your new set-up can be more accurate. Or not. I don't know how well the Evo's speedos are.

It depends. If they are lightweight rims an 18x9.5 could likely weigh less than the stock rims, in which case they would actually make you faster.

you will most definitely rub if you get 9.5" wide rims. actually i will not be surprised if you rub badly with that wide rims, i would think these might rub with stock suspension.

s-techs are the biggest aftermarket spring drop with 1.9" in the front and 0.9" in the rear.

the widest i would go would be 8.5" with a +30 offset.
and go with a 235 tire, not 245.

what about if they only have a 12mm offset? and what could i do about the rubbing. because im also looking at a 18x 9.5

you can go up to 18x9.5 in the front w/ stock front fenders. Depending on wheel applications, the offset should be somewhere between +22-35. As for the rears, you can run between 35-40 offset.

Another way you can do is go w/ reverse stagger setup frequent practiced among Japanese tuners. 18x9.5 front w/ +22 offset and 18x9 w/ 29-35 offset, run same size tires 245s or 255s ( altho its not recommended for street use because you can't rotate the tires, but you will definitely gain quicker exiting speed at the apex at the track.).

if the wheels retain the overall diameter of the stock setup and the overall weight of the stock setup u'll be fine. if the setup is lighter than stock, it'll actually speed you up.

100% wrong, as long as the tires are 255 or 265/35's you will be fine. I have my car lowered 1.5" in front and 1" in back with 18x9.5's 255/35's no rubbing.

The lowest offset you will be able to fit on an EVO is +22. A 12mm offset will only fit RWD cars and will give you that ultra deep dish look. You will not be able to run these wheels on an EVO.
