IMHO JICs suck.

STI breaks a strut (with video)

another thread discussing the incident

I have personally seen JIC units with a lot of slack in the area where these struts broke on this individuals STI.

It was problems like these that I overlooked JIC coilovers and went with the ohlins instead despite the extra cost.

Well, FWIW the Evo FLTA-2 doesn't have any welds between the shock body and the brackets. The entire body is threaded (just about) and they look WAY beefier than the ones on that Subaru. Interesting thread though. Good find.

I have always suspected that after looking at several JIC installs. Although I like the separate spring preload and height adjustment features, I never liked the quality of the product.

If you loosen the height adjusters and shake the struts, it flexes with a lot of play between the insert and bottom bracket.

I have seen "feature" this on both WRX and EVO JIC units.

Hmm, I've had my JIC for a while with no problems. If I apply your logic to the Evo, I could say the Evo sucks more than JIC sucks, since so many of them have clutch problems, rod problems, paint problems, hoses popping off problems, seat problems, tranny problems, transfer case problems, etc. But you didn't overlook the Evo and go to a different car.

Of course, it's just your opinion. My opinion is that they don't suck (the Evo doesn't suck, either, BTW).

Wow........

just finished reading through that thread & the linked one from the s2k forum....

the failure isint really any concern to me as it is sounds like an isolated case of a bad weld. what bothers me is the level of customer service provided by JIC, Esp on the S2k owners exhaust & his dealings with that "Ben" charachter

with all the praise of RRE's JIC setup & its ability to preform, i was sold.... but now i will be looking elsewhere as i dont want anything to do with JIC products (though i wouldnt hesitate to use RRE)
