Tire recommendation..
Tire recommendation..
I've read numerous threads, looked around on the Tire Rack website, searched on this forum, and even asked other Evo drivers as to what they would recommend:
I am about to take a road trip in December. It will be about 800 miles one way on the Interstate, and snow along the way is a good possibility. Once I am there, I will definitely see snow on a daily basis. I will be there for two weeks, driving at least 2 hours each day once there, and then traveling back 800 miles on the Interstate. The tires I want to buy will only be used for this trip, so treadwear is not really an issue. They will need to fit a 17x8 inch rim.
What would be my best choice and how soon can they be here? I'm in the 23503 ZIP Code and need them by Dec. 10th at the latest. Road trip starts on Dec. 17th.
Thanks.

Dedicated winter/snow tires made nowadays capable of handling speeds between 75 and 100 MPH? Just curious. They'll be comming off my car by the New year at the latest. These will be more of a "one time" usage tire, probably turning around and selling them right after I get done using them.
Thanks.
Most snow tires are only good up to 99mph, but there are a few H/V rated ones out there. Might be better using an all season tire rather than a dedicated snow if your not using them that long. In an all season, the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M/S would be a great choice. The Blizzak LM-25 or Michelin Pilot Alpin PA-2 would be speed rated performance winter tires. The B-Stone good to 149mph and the Michelin to 139 mph

I only posted the 75MPH to 100MPH to get a feel for my options.
I'm not looking at doing some serious sprints in these things, but more worried about drivability of the Evo in some low temperature conditions along with some snow, and only for a couple of weeks. I don't really want to go with an all season tire if I am certainly going to be seeing this weather for the next month, and then going right back to 80 degree and above days (every day) for the next few years.
I'm still unclear as to what it is you're after. For the ultimate in grip in sloppy snow and cold do the Blizzak's of the proper speed rating - there is no comparison.
If you want to do something that you can wear more than just through the winter slop do all-seasons.
I wear ContiExtremes (just put them on 2 days ago:first snowstorm). By no means do they give me the snow traction I'd love. But they're the compromise for me for 3+ months of winter in upper Illinois.
All I do is remember the vehicle is all-wheel drive, yes, BUT it's snow and ice - slow the hell down. In snow, at any moment, the throttle can spin all 4 (3?). It WILL slip, it WILL slide, but I put 2500+ miles on a month alot of it freeway and the Blizzaks would get torn up over that time. This is my 2nd winter on the all-seasons and I couldn't tell you which tires were front or rear and none showed bad wear. The OEMs wore terribly with my same autocross alignment. Make up your mind the performance you want and get the right rubber.
Good luck and let us know what you decide on and how it all comes out afterwards!

Where I am right now, there is no snow, but it is cold. It's getting to be around the temperature where I am not comfortable using the Advan's anymore. In about 2 weeks, I am driving home for the holidays. On that trip, I might encounter some snow/ice, and I will definitely hit some snow/ice when I am there. Then in January, I will be leaving to go overseas, where I will see hot days for the next few years, so Advan's will definitely go back on and stay on.
I want something that will work great in the snow and ice, but I will have no choice but to drive 800 miles x2 on the interstate, possible in "good" weather conditions. Hope that makes a bit more sense.
