another track tire question

the pirelli P Zero Corsa looks like it might be a good track tire. Has anyone got experience with it? Would it be in the same league as a toyo ra 1? For road race tracks not drags.

thanks

Hi,

I've run both the RA-1's (255/40-17) and the Corsa's (255/35-18) and they might be comparable tires. These tires have been my street and practice tire not the tire I used for competition days. Corsas are noisier than a full threaded RA-1 and are not as sticky when new vs. a worn down (4/32") RA-1. At the limit both tires are very predictable with the RA-1's warning by a loud howl. Tirerack had a great sale price on the Pirelli's on a few selected sizes a while back.

Some of my BMW CCA Club Race buddies and a couple of PCA racers I know have used the P Zero Corsa. They were not impressed at all. They felt grip was not any better than RA-1's in the dry, significantly worse in the wet, and tire life was worse as well. Anyway, they're overpriced considering the mediocre performance.

One of the PCA guys locally recommended the Dunlop SP Super Sport. Dont know if that fits your application and or needs but it's another option.

They make these in a 245-40/17 and for only a $120 a pop....
I read a european review of this tire and it fell below all of the other competition tires they tested. But they are supposed to wear really well and sometimes less is more in the traction department.

Track Tires

My Dunlop Super Sport tires have not held up at the track as well as the Toyo's but I may not have run enough tire pressure. I was grooving the front tires about 1-2 inches in from the outside. A late model S4 was running the Dunlops at 50psi. I was running around 42. The tire says max is 51. I have not tried the Corsas.

Not sure but believe -1.8. Would have to look up the alignment after the coilovers were installed.
