omnipower coilover review..

OK.
i finally have everything on the car and i promised an update.
I got the omnipower (street) coilovers from GSC motorsports (excellent guys over there). Upon receiving them, they looked like high quality components that were machined well.
I had TurboTrix install them for me (no tools/time/etc). Mark was able to install them relatively easily. He dropped it pretty low.. actually.. very very low. I wasn't rubbing anywhere though.
I knew i needed an alignmnet asap, and i ended up using Euro-Tire in Fairfield NJ. It's the same shop that set up the trix racecar, and they were highly recomended.
My car was worked on while 2 911's were there getting tires. I had the car corner balanced and aligned. Here are my specs..

The corner balance went well...
FL-975
FR-978
RL-645
RR-645
3243

My alignment specs are:
FL -1.1camber
FR -1.0camber
Front Toe 0.00

RL -1.1camber
RR -1.1camber
Rear Toe 0.06"

I fed them the numbers i got on the board here... for the stock settings. I had them raise the car .5" as well in the front.

Here are my dropping heights..(measured from floor to the to inside of wheel well opening)

FR Stock 27"
FL Stock 27"
RR Stock 26"
RL Stock 26"

After install...

FR 25.5"
FL 25.5"
RR 25"
RL 25"

basically.. I dropped it 1.5" in front, and 1" in rear. It looked mean as H E L L with a 2" drop.. but it was just too low IMHO. This is my daily driver.. and the roads in NJ suck.

Driving experience: Let me start by saying i don't auto X or drag.. I drive (with spirit) on public roads. I really wanted the car lower, but didn't feel that just adding springs would be worth it in the long run.
The car is much stiffer. The dampers feel better than the stock dampers. They absorb road imperfections and bumps with a "thhhump" sound and a smooth ride. Cornering feels solid, with alot less body roll.
High speeds (85+) feel tight, and stiff. It's no caddy! you feel the road, but you aren't jarred around like a bobblehead.

At very slow speeds, it is bouncy. From 1mph to about 10.. it almost feels like you aren't doing much dampening at all.. the stiff springs bounce you around. This partiular ride could be better... but the overall ride feeling is improved over stock.. and with a nicer, lower ride height.

I did have early problems with some "knocking" noise in my RR strut area. This seems to have subsided after my alighnment. The struts are noisy over big bumps when cruising at high speeds. (bumps you would normally try to avoid..).
No more knocking though. Maybe something was loose.

If i could do anything differently.. i would have just let euro-tire put the coilovers in, and get it all done it one shot. It would have been cheaper, and quicker.

The pics are dark.. took them last night when i got home.
Anyway.. most of you know what a 1.5"/1.0" drop looks like.. so.....

Thanks again to Greg at gsc..and to those who have posted reviews on these coilovers!

WOW I need to do this, this place corner balances? I need A shop that can do this with teh Evo. Listen, can you post a copy of your alignment sheet, or atleast post the specs? I am going to do this.

Also would you say the evo has better turn in with these? Less body roll? Easyier to driver? Does it hold corners better?

i paid 225 for the alignment and the cornerbalance. TurboTrix did the install, and they charged me $250.
I guess i wasn't overpaying for going to seperate shops...

i can post the results of the alignment.. i'll just have to scan them somehow. but the cornerbalance machine didn't have a printout.. just a readout.

i was told it was a "very good idea" to get a cornerbalance when i got the struts... and i didn't want to neglect my car for a hundred bucks or so..

Definetly less body roll.. but with my mushy winter tires on the car.. i hesitate to give an unbiased opinion on turn-in and cornering. it sure feels better.. but my tires give in way before i'm close to the limits with the advans on it.. is winter over yet?

Dang, I don't know whether to feel good or a little skeptical about the $70 I was quoted for the alignment and cornerweighting from the local shop here that was recommended to me by one of the race shops. I guess I'll let everyone know how it turns out.....
