Can't machine Rotor's????

SO, after taking my car to Midas to have my rotor's looked at, they told me a couple of things. I need to ask for your advice and input.

They told me that all 4 rotors are warped. And that doesn't surprise me. I am going to order aftermarket rotors anyways. BUt what he did say that surprised me was that, he said our rotors (stock) are a damper? rotor which can not be machined or turned. That if we did, it would cause more damage than helping.

Is this true? Has anyone ever had their rotors turned or machined? I understand our rotors seem to warp easily, but I did not know that they could not be turned.

Please help me before I go and drop $600 on new rotors if they are not needed.

Thank you

It can be turned, the down side is it will warp again after it's turned.
Invest your money on some R1 rotors and Hawk or Project mu pads.
Break em in properly and your warping days are over.
Hope this helps...

I just called a mitsu dealership...and they told me that they are not supposed to be turned.

F*(k it. I am just going to get the stoptech slotted rotors. Mitsu wants to charge $262....A ROTOR...screw that. all 4 rotors for $560.

I would never turn a vented disk if it is warped. The reason is simple, you will have sides of uneven thickness. With a single unvented disk this would not be the case, but you would still subject the disk to additional warpage due to uneven stress relief. Lightly turning (.01-.02 in. on both sides) to clean up the surfaces for new pads is as far as I would ever go. Given the heat that our rotors have to withstand from the aggressive pads we run, I would just go to new upgraded rotors.

When doing the pads make sure to reuse the shims from the old
to the new pads.
As any performance brake pads, they have the tendency to
squeek.

SO here is the fun part. After getting the car aligned (camber and all) $220. 4 new slotted rotors $550. Then there is installation $250. ......by the way they told me my front strut is blown.....probably because I lowered it. Jesus these cars are expensive to repair.

By the way...the wife has an evo too.......so that means another $1000 eventually for hers to.....if her rotors warp.

Fun cars to drive....holy expensive to repair.

P.S.-I already bought the brake pads $160(project Mu)

Even if you turn them they will warp again. Turn them if you are unable to purchase new rotors but change them as soon as possible.

i've had my rotors resurfaced twice...
just remember, the only reason you don't want to keep on resurfacing rotors is because of the concern of the rotor warping.
you resurface the rotor, it gets thinner..and if the material gets thinner, it will be more prone to warping.
I don't know how you use the brakes on your car, but I would say, if you're merely driving the car on the streets, and want to save a few $, then have it resurfaced.

getting a brand new set of rotors won't be a bad idea either
