SCREEEEEEEEECH Ferodo DS2500 pads
Squeal like a pig, boy
I have had these on my car forever & have always been quiet.
Sometimes if the old rotors are used & not cleaned up they can squeal from a lip formed on the outer circumfrence. This happens when the previous pads wear down the surface of the rotor & not the edge.
Just use a bunch of copper anti-seize on all of the rubbing surfaces (except for the pad surface of course). I have had mine for 18 months and 20k miles, zero issues. They randomly will squeek when slowly backing out of my garage in the am or just when I am slooooooowly coming to a stop. Other than that, they are fine.
Haha. I can't even imagine stopping without my brakes squeaking anymore. What's it like? =/
Zeus, what do you recommend if I don't have the fiber shim anymore? I've been reading on another thread that just smothering the backing plate and shim and everything with copper anti seize.

I'm one of those who REFUSES to "turn" rotors. Either you can knock the pad transfer off with a good wheel, or you replace them. End of story.
I will say that of all the people who have come to me with issues, most do not prep the rotors when changing pads. THAT makes a huge difference as many (most) pad compounds are not compatible. OR, they don't hit the oil soaked rotors with some brake cleaner, and contaminate the pads. Helps to knock the Zinc coating (if there is any) off the swept area too.

Well,
I finally got that copper anti-seize on them. Squeaked just as much as I've ever heard it.
Then I took it out and bedded the brakes for one more time... And I haven't even heard a peep since. Wooooo

i want my ferodos to squeel like a lil girl. wanna sell me your pads? lol
for some reason the squeel calms me down.
i want mine to squeel but it doesnt... it does for like a day or two after a trackday or a mt run.

OK just to update, I pulled the Girodisc rear shims out this weekend after recognizing that the squeal was coming from the back of the car. Now no more squeal except for very slow stops -- which is WAY better than before when any speed stops = squeal you could hear 1000ft away!
So... on an X, ferodo DS2500 + girodisc pad adapters + shim = very tight and squealing. Remove the shim and things fit nicely and minimal squealing.

Installed my DS 2500's last week after getting a whopping 38,000 miles out of the original stockers. Replaced stock rotors with Centric Premiums, didnt use shims, no goop or spray ****. Bed them in and off I went. No major squealing, just a little whine when crawling in traffic or coming to a complete stop when warm.
Great pad, great initial feel and fade or lack thereof. I'll try em at an autocross and post up in the future. Overall I'm happy with them.
