SCREEEEEEEEECH Ferodo DS2500 pads

My Ferodo DS2500s squeal like a ****. I've had them for a few months, but they haven't gotten any better. Everywhere I go, people look at me like I'm driving an '84 Cutlass Supreme that has no pads grinding metal to metal. I can't sneak up on a corpse with these brakes. When I pull into the parking lot at work, everyone peeks out their window and waves at me, which means I can never be late. When I go to McDonalds, the girl that takes the money talks on the headset to the girl that gives out the food about how bad I must need a brake job, and they've never even changed their own oil in their entire lives. When I come to a red light, the people in front of me pull off the road, because they think a jet is about to land on them. Trouble is, these pads were expensive, so I'm stuck with them for the duration of their life. They're really good about not producing too much dust, but I want something that performs as well but is much less screamy for my next set of pads. Any ideas?

willing to sell them? heh... i love the ferodo's

as for the squealing... i've had the ferodo 2500's on for about 6 months... only time i really have any bad squealing is under really slow braking... like when i'm parking... but it's not nearly as bad as you describe... yours sounds like a train outta control!... lol... try greasing the backing plates and shims up... that'll help ALOT!

My last Porsche did the same thing as I ran high performance pads for the track. People used to look at me as if I didn't know what I was doing and would make comments that implied that I didn't deserve the car.

I remember coming to a stop at the Mall and some helpful lady in an SUV told me I really needed to get my brakes checked and that they were probably worn out!

I ended up replacing the rotors, pads and all stock anti-squeal shims to finally solve the problem. I feel your pain!

The car the Evo replaced

Properly bedded in, they shouldn't squeal that badly.

(1) Remove pads
(2) Liberally spray back of pad with anti-squeal spray
(3) Reinstall with pad shims
(4) Bed in pads per procedure on stoptech.com

Or do a track event, that'll quiet them down for a while.

Brakes are like a woman, they tend to whine if you're not beating on them.

Or something.

My wife (it's her daily driver) feels your pain. Way back in '03, after we swapped the stock pads for Hawk HP +, which we fitted w/o shims-- because I had to sand the pads down in order to get them to fit, eventually I ran out of patience, thus I couldn't get the shims to fit--my wife, literally scared a boy off his bike as she squealed to a routine stop. "But, honey, they're race brakes..." We haven't experienced any squealage with the Ferodos.

You're funny as ****.... Should be a standup comic, "You get no respect"!!!

My pads used to squeal like a **** too but it stop a little after I applied high temp grease to pad's brakets that made any contact. Might help you out...

there's a good writeup here somewhere...

Same here. I noticed it squeaks a bit more in the rain too. I kinda like the attention.

Speaking of attention, what was really fun was bedding in the pads. Went to a lightly-travelled industrial road and did about 25 60-20 stops. Then drove home. First couple of lights, nice plumes of white smoke are rising from all four corners. I observed the minivan stopped in front of me inch slowly away as far as he could, driver probably thinking, "WTF?!?"

Noize,

I have had these pads for 3 months and I have 0 squeal. Some people don’t believe me but ask EVO MR. I took my time installing them and I greased them well. Results: no squeal and amazing bite although my rotors are screwed. I would say reinstall them and re-grease them.
