Questions for Robi/RRE

1. Are you guys still using JIC's or have changed to DMS, Buddy Club?

2. How often is a rebuild required if the car is a daily driver and approx what is the cost?

3. Of the coilovers John M sets up, which one has the best ride quality or better yet offers the best compromise b/w daily driving and tracking?

thanks

Robi insider

KZEVO,

I am not Robi, but I am flying him out here to set up my car. I am sure he is using the DMS 50's. He says these are straight from Rally cars, but configured for the street EVO's. The aluminum top hats last a season in Rally Races, but last forever in our cars.

I can't afford the $5000 DMS's and needed the 'best bang for your buck' suspension. Robi said my MR could benefit with just Espilar GP Springs and several other under carriage upgrades.

Robi says the Espilar GP Springs are the highest rated springs which fit in stock location. Hope that helped.

thanks for the info. so are u going with Espilar then?

Seems like you do a lot of track events (from signature below) so you think the springs will be good enough or at least comparable to a fully tuned coilover from RRE?

Different setups for different budgets...the OKC solution is to spend as little as posible to get almost the same trackability as the coilover setups (but with no ride height/dampening adjustments..and corner weighting is a ***** without adjustable spring perches). TEAM ADD driver "Hallster" with this budget setup (stock GSR dampers, Higher spring rates, bushings in the right places within the rear multilink IRS, 25mm rear sway bar, AGGRESIVE racing alignment and ***** (WAY TO GO SEAN) won the first NASA TT"C" event @ CAL speedway ("STOCK"or base class for the EVO) and placed second the final day foiled in the last session by the organiser of the TT series here in socal. I think the Bilstein dampers from driv200s' MR will provide the handling and times he wants while he's saving his pennies for the DMS 50's...BTW anyone need a full race 944T??? comeon throw the man a bone!

AstroEvo - Oklahoma City

KZEVO - I have been tracking for about 18 years. Started with Porsches and am still very active in the Porsche Club. Don't let me fool you though for a rich guy. I have a '78 911 SC....about 200HP all modded. I am just completing a 944 Turbo with massive upgrades. It's my biggest project to date. When I gave the MR a look, I had to have one. Sold my Z06 today....sad. Just broke even on payments, so no money to spend.

Thanks goodness for guys like Robi! Not only is he helping me sell my 944 Turbo now that it's finished, he is the expert on suspension set ups for all budgets. Thanks Robi for the 944 Turbo bump!

As for track racing....I love open track events but autocross is so much more affordable and local once a month. I plan on taking my MR to 1st place this year if my research and new suspension on order does what I hope the car will do!!!!!
And yes, I am getting the set up Robi has planned for me. The Espelir GP springs. I don't even have my MR from the dealership yet and I already have stuff arriving to put on it. Just got the Enkei NTMO3+M wheels too!

I just help with the set-up RRE, San Rafael Mitsu, Easy Street, or Evotunner.com are the retailers in this side of the country.

Hey guys, just a few notes. We have not taken a rally strut and adopted it to the track, what has been done is we built a track setup and have applied knowledge gained from all motorsport disciplines into the evolution of each setup. This being said, the opposite is true, what is learned in track racing is also applied to rally setups. Overall function of all units is same design philosophy, but valving and rates are different. To keep evolving the design, guys like ROBI are continuously giving us test reports on how the units have preformed under what settings and circumstances..... constant testing !!! The setup is never complete, and never going to be at it's best. Every driver is different, and every track is different.

The top mounts will last a FULL SEASON if not TWO before needing to change the bearings in them. These bearings are not available in North America, I have yet to find an equivalent that is (if so hopefully it is cheaper than 75$ a pop and we can bring the retail price down on these things) They do not rattle and they do not bind..... at least not yet anyhow !!!

Regards,
Mark

i spoke with robi once... he likes most (and i think this hasn't been emphasized at all about the dms sus) that the dms suspension has the widest range of adjustments, tho his kart had more apparently :\.

Robi - hopefully bumping this thread catches your attention. Know you're a busy guy but hoping you can offer some advise

i'm weighing my options for RRE Buddy Clubs or your Espelir GT springs plus other suspension mods. I'd like to get your opinion so please either PM me or reply as to what you think is a good setup for budget minded people. the car will be both a daily driver and a track car (about 8-10 track events a year). thanks

We all know that you are a busy guy, but a full thread with advice about your suspension suggestions for a budget would really be apprecited by a lot of people. Specificaly what can be done without coilovers and what parts work best. We all respect Robi but we all cannot afford to fly him out to set up our cars.
