wheel spacers?

How many of you use wheel spacers? I obviously like the look of moving the wheels outboard for looks reasons but is there sound reasons for doing it performance wise? drawbacks?

Yes. Using spacers = wider track = more grip = better traction (to put it shortly). I am running 5mm H&R spacers/longer studs in front which equals to a 10mm wider track in front. Ideally you would want to get rims with just a lower offset and not use spacers.

Thanks for the compliments....yes your traction is insane with the wider track....your turning response is like on steroids!!!! hehehehe great for track but i really wouldnt recommend anything higher than 15mm..... you will also have to roll the rear fenders if you have an 18x9 wheel with like a 30ish offset.....just like what sophis said, i would go with a higher offset actually if you wanna use spacers or lower offset without....

Any quick way to do the math on how much spacer to use with stock wheels to get out to the edge?

I thought using different size spacers front and back would adversly affect the drive train (differentials, transfer case, etc.) in the long run in AWD cars.

I would say +10mm on each side would be good.

You want to keep the same tire diameter on all four sides. Track is another thing.

that's true, but if ur fronts are sticking out more than your rears (or different from the OEM settings) then you're bound to run into problems...i would think

So the question then..... is the track on a evo from side to side the same on the front and back. That should be easy enough to find out.....you of course would have the same wheel, spacer and tire dimensions...

Michael - the other thing you want to find out is about the H&R hubcentric spacers. I've been told that they're not really hubcentric. i could be totally wrong, but letting you know what I heard. I personally had Volks that i wanted to put on the car and ended up getting some cheap spacers (non hubcentric) which may have warped my rotors. So i went back to stock rims and sold the volks...don't want to scare you...just make sure you do your research before you buy. I've done quite a bit, but there isn't enough info on the forum here.

KZ,

Thanks for the added info. I know hubcentric or not can make a difference. It seems to be a topic that nobody really has the skinny on, the spacers that is. I will do some digging. I am not going to spend a ton of money on aftermarket wheels. Minnesota is too hard on them. I drive year round in snow and salt etc... so I am probably going to stick with my Enkei's and just sand and patch and paint when they get nicked up. I report back with some info... thanks-
