Installed coilovers = Noise?

I installed some Zeal Function XS coilovers over the weekend. They handle and ride awesome but I now have noise like a creaking sound when I turn at slow speeds. Any ideas?

The noise is coming from the front driver and passenger sides.

holy ****! I have the same noise when making full left turn from driver side wheel well too!

Yes, I'm the one that installed function xs w/ 10k/9k !!!!

First, I thought it was my brake cable! But now I'm thinking it the coilovers!!!

One thing I noticed was that when at stock height then no noise.

But, tonight I droped it to 1 and 1/2 finger gap front and none back and I noticed this noise pronounced....WTF!!!!

Well I guess I am glad I am not the only one with the noise.

I thought maybe the preload wasn't set correctly. I am gonna give Endless/Zeal a call tomorrow and see if they have any ideas.

How are your Zeals with those spring rates?

not too bad w/ the ride. I'd say more comfy than stock.

First, I installed them w/ too much preload and w/ 2/5 damper setting and it was boing boing.

So, tonight I spend another 4 hrs and redid the preload and 1/2/ damper setting and was just comfy. 10k/9k really not a big deal, it's nice that when I WOT car does not buckle fwd like stock setup.

The reason I got stiffer springs was that I drove evo with 12k/10k w/ function x and that was even better ride, I was blown w/ those!!! But cost 2700+...

But that creaking noise is bothering me now...

Please keep us informed !!!

is it possible that maybe you lowered it too much and when the spring gets compressed a little it is hitting itself. coil touching eachother?

come to think of it, I think it's the preload not being stiff enough. Loose preload moving the spring is probably it. I'd say give it three or four more quarter clicks on preload tension. I'll try this this weekend along w/ +1/2" height, too low now.

I'll update, plz keep updating....

height is not factor in spring compression w/ coilovers. separate adjustments - the beauty of coilovers...but more investigation needed...!

Thanks spyderx. I'll try putting some more preload tension in it. I'll let you know what happens

My Zeals squeek and creak from time to time, it comes and goes. I have an RS so you can hear everything. I don't think it is anything to worry about, I think it is just noise from the springs on the metal perches.

My Teins do the same thing. I think it is an inherent issue with coilovers. The rears do it the most.

I had issues like the creaking and clunking from time to time with front HKS coilovers. A tightening of the nut at the top solved the problem.

The top bolt secures the coilovers body to the pillow ball tophat or camber plate. Be careful with bolts on any coilover as some will let the gas out.

As far as damping settings, I set mine at 3/3. This seems to have better than stock ride with much flatter handling. 1/1 is good if you want that smooth mercedes ride. On the softer damping settings you can hear the valving go whoosh when you hit big bumps.
