RRE and rubing?
LOL, if your 5 zigen wheels are 35 offset, you won't run into rubbing issues with 255 or anything narrower, even lowered with JIC. That's what I was running last year. If you are running a lot of negative camber in the front, it might barely touch the inner plastic but nothing to worry about.

I agree with trinydex, 35mm is ideal for a 9". 40mm would also work, especially if you get the jic coilovers (or any coilover with the 2.5" spring). I'm running 18x9 40mm with a 265/645 tire - which is a bit too tall - some rubbing on the inside. I ran (now my father does) 17x9" 40mm with a 245/40. Some mild rubbing on the rear trailing arm, but only at the track.

i like the slammed to the side look which is hard to achieve on the evo cuz the rear always ends up being tucked, which means to get the widest stance you gotta do some pulling... front fenders are always available... but poo on rear fenders.
but realize taz that there are very few whjeels 18x9 +40 that actually fit an Evo...most will have offsets in the high 20's to mid 30's - offset is not the only consideration, spoke design is as well
