Adverse Effects Of Going To Low?

Lowering an Evo I think really adds to the visual apeal but what are the effects when it comes to the handeling. If the suspension is tuned correctly then can the handeling become poor? I like the look of a car that sits lower and I drive on only city streets and highway so how low can I go with out killing performance? With out taking ride quality into considoration what direction should I go with my suspension? I will be keeping my stock wheels and tires.

i hope if the suspension is tuned correctly it wont handle poor. haha i get what you ment though.

basicly we are asking what is the point where low is too low? when the geometery of the supesnsion starts to work against itself and raising the roll center of gravity. what is the stock ride height on the evo 8?

what direction to go with suspension: you want visual appeal while gaining better handling.

i think the best bet is coilovers, two way height and custom valving for your spring rates. ride quality only suffers when spring rates and valving are out of wack.

stock wheels are decent but there are some extra mass that can shaved off about 6-8lbs per corner. though bmr track tested a 4lb difference in wheel weights using new tires and didnt note sigficant changes it was on a evo viii rs. thety stated it might make more of a difference during longer durations as stress on one tire might be higher considering the weight.

That is exactly what I am asking, going low looks great but when does it start to have negative implacations?

If you lower your car too much, the coilover will tends to lack strokes. In addition, the geometry of the stock susp design will be compromised.

For example, the engine on the TRB02 is moved up higher mainly because the drive shaft axle will not line up to the wheel if the car is overly lower which in turn cause lost in efficiency. Also, if you take your Evo to the track, you want to make sure there's enough clearance from the fenders and the wheel so you won't rub during hard cornering.

Thanks,
Tom
