Question Pilot Exalto PE2 or PS2?

Looking at getting the Pilot Sport PS2 but since I'm in S. Cal I'm concerned about the HUGE rain drains in the tire. They take up a good chunk of real estate and must reduce the contact patch. Not much concern in cornering but must affect braking.

The Pilot Exalto PE2 look virtually the same except the "drains" are a lot thinner = better contact patch. Their also cheaper and WRC "inspired".

Anybody running the Exalto PE2 and can comment? Looking for drive comfort + performance of the PS2.

PE2's do not come in any thing larger than a 225, so I doubt you will get feed back from evo owners. Hope this helps.

Yeah, they don't make a large enough size for the EVO. Might want to check out Bridgestones S-03 which has a wet compound built into its tread, or the Goodyear GS-D3 if your main concern is wet traction.

I think what he's saying Neal is he is NOT concerned about rain, as so cal is a desert.

Correct - only rains 10 days per year.

Michelin's web site lists 245/40/ZR17 and 245/45/ZR17 which should both fit stock wheels.

You are right! Just confirmed and the pe2 does come in 245 sizes. My only concern with these is that they are zr rated not wr or yr so I question their performance. For comfort they would probbly softer than the PS2...A little more comfort PE alittle more firmness PS. Nice post.

According to Tirerack's information the PE2 has the same cornering g's as PS2, almost same braking distance and slalom times.
I don't know how Tirerack "calibrates" their subjective tests like "Real World Road Ride Ratings" and "Performance Drive Data" between test series. Would be nice to know.

Cant compare the two survey results against each other, only against tires within their own class. The numbers represented are against the same class of tire not cross classes. They both work well just in different ways.

Tried to get the 245/40/17 and 245/45/17 from Costco. They said they couldn't get this size from Michelin (perhaps they didn't try very hard).

So I'm getting the PS2s.

Those PS2's look great and I have read good things about them on this board. Post some details once you get them as these could be my next tires as well. Thanks
