Tread wear

I just purchased an 03 Evo and noticed the front tires have excessive wear on the outter tread. Is this a common thing on the stock tires? The rears have plenty of tread on the them and the fronts do too, just not on the outside.

That is not common. Typically people have more wear on the insides of the tires due to the aggressive camber of the suspension. The only way there could be more wear on the outside is if the person drove very aggressively and did not have enough negative camber or if they had the tires switched from side to side to move the worn edge to the outside. It would probably be a good idea to get an alignment.

With that said, what can be changed (alignment wise) on the stock Evo setup. Can the shop achieve more negative camber than is already present? If so, how much more can you get?

What would be optimum for F/R toe on a primary daily driver. The car will only be tracked a handful of times a year.

In the front the camber bolts have 2 settings. One setting is around 0.8 to 1.0 negative camber and the other is 1.8 to 2.0 negative camber. The rear has a wide range of camber settings. I am currently running -2.0 front camber and -1.0 rear camber with 0 toe in the front and 0.06 deg toe-in in the rear for stability at speed. The 0 toe helps a lot with tire wear. Search around and you will find a lot of information on alignment settings. My camber settings may be a bit too aggressive for some people, but with my driving style I get fairly even wear across the tread surface.

Also, it is possible that the previous owner of the car had the tires remounted on the opposite sides due to excessive wear on the inside edge of the tire. If they did that, more negative camber will not help you. Regardless, it is a good idea to get an alignment as most evos are off from the factory.
