Staggered Wheels

Hey guys i'm a noobie to the evo scene. I just had a quick question, can you do a staggered wheel setup, and not throw off the whole handling on the car??? Thanks

with AWD almost all companies will recommended to NOT use staggered wheels.

I would say I wouldnt do it. The only AWD car Ive seen with staggered wheels is the Lambos. Both the Gallardo and the Murcielago have bigger wheels in back than front, yet they're AWD. That somewhat confuses me. I always thought you had to have the same on all 4.

Wider wheels and tires don't make a difference with the AWD system, you have to look at rolling diameter of the tire.

I know, i'm just throwing that out there since offsets would be different.

Wow you couldnt be more wrong! Japanese companies have been using staggered rim and tire widths on the Evos and STis for years! They get awesome results!! Some companies stagger just tire width with the same rim size or vice versa. Some companies stagger both rim and wheel width. All companies i see go wider up front to help with the predictablility and balance of the car. Prime example: check out this month's issue of SCC October with the Cusco WRX STi on the cover. They ride shotgun with in the Cusco Evo and STi. The Evo has 17x9 Racing Hart CPO-35 up front and 17x8.5 in back. It's a great article, read it!

I just put a set of Work wheels on my rig that give a staggered appearance. They are same size and offset front and rear. 18x8.5 +29 but have a "type R" front disk and "type O" rear disk. This gives a nice dish in the rear. I have pics but cannot figure out how to resize and post on here. If someone would like to host them That would be cool.

Ah I was going to mention that. I noticed that as well as I was reading the article, quite interesting I must say!

Just guessing but I am thinking that in saying they" don't make a difference" he meant that staggered wheels would not have any negative effects.

Wow that's a very optimistic interpretation! I may have failed to read between the lines on his post but most people would agree that when he said "staggering won't make a difference in AWD systems" what he really meant was that staggering won't make a difference in AWD systems. Maybe i'm just taking things too literally but it was pretty cut and dry to me.

When you lose do you call it not winning?
