researching rotors....

Ok so I have done some searching on site and on google and most of all replacement rotors I have found are slotted, dimpled, drilled, etc...Who makes a solid standard replacement rotor? I know my friend with the 1G uses OEM Brembo solid rotors and he gets them at a good price through tire rack, im guessing that is what we get from mitsubishi and is that why we cant go buy them from tire rack as he can for his 1G? because everhthing I have found is slotted or something.... I dont need rotors anytime soon but I am just researching and learning as I go so when the time comes I am not scrambling and wasting money where i dont need to.... Thanks

PM primo8998 He can get you blank Rotora rotors. Front set for aprox $200.

I applaud you for being one of the few that doesn't want to waste money on nonsense.

Well thankyou for the compliment Mayhem...

Additional question to my previous question would be why in the world do solid rotors or all rotor types for the evo cost so much? They are made of the same material as a rotor for any other car, which solid brembos are like in the 50 a piece range on tire rack for dsm's I think? So is it the size of the Evo rotor? or am I missing something here??

$200 for a front set of your std. solid rotors is up there I think, compared to other cars I've owned.... Im not complaining because I will pay that and have no problem paying that because I love my car, but this just strikes my curiosity....

Thanks!

You know, and I'll have to check myself, but I think my dad said they had rotors for the Evo at Autozone now. I know they have brake pads because we've discussed that here before. My father's story was that he was up at AZ to get new rotors/pads for my sister's Lancer (OZ edt) and they pulled out these massive rotors/pads. Obviously for the Evo and not the Lancer.

Wouldn't hurt to try. I'm sure that they're cheap, if they do have them. You're right though, the price is still up there and more than likely you're paying for the name. If you're doing nothing but street driving then you are certainly just paying for the name. When my street pads die, I'm getting the AZ pads. Screw this $150 brake pad sh*t! People need to realize that they are being taken advantage of (suckers!)

Works Evo has awesome slotted rotors. I just replaced my Brembos with them and added Endless CCX pads. On the track, there's no comparison.

Yeah I will have to look into maybe an autozone rotor or raybestos rotor and see what the price is on those....Im guessing for street driving with those rotors and a nice set of front pads (EBC, Hawk) would work very well...but that paying 400.00 for a set of 4 rotors is insane when i could care less about dimples, slots, or any of that because I dont have time to go to the track, I just like the car and enjoy driving it to and from work and going out for evening cruises and stuff...I mean my friends dsm stops from 125mph in the 1/4 with oem solid brembos and hawk pads and he pays like 150.00 for his entire break job! Hopefully by the time I am ready to do a brake job more places make oem replacements and the price will be better than it is now...If not oh well!! I like the car to much to dwell on over priced brakes!

Thanks for all the information like I said I dont need a brake job I am just researching and learning and will find ways to save myself a few bucks to be able to buy some fun stuff!!

OK, I'm definately gridding behind you next time at Putnam!

Sure, there's probably some BOHICA involved, but the problem is we want track compatible hardware in a street car compatible form-factor. The market for good pads in the size we need just isn't that big compared to real volume production. At least not yet.

Dave,
We're talking about street pads here. I use seperate pads and rotors for the track. So don't worry about my brakes not working at Putnam. I got all the braking stuff ironed out on the track. Although I could use some brake cooling ducts for those hot July track days.

Trayman,
Are you looking for rear rotors too? I figure my rear rotors will last darn near forever.

were you able to get cheap oe replacement rotors?? The reason I ask is I'm trading in my '03 and have girodiscs installed. I'm hunting for used stock set or cheap oe replacements. But as you said prices for oe replacements are kind of up there.
Thanks,
Jules.

I never checked on it. I probably won't need any rotors until next year. If you do find out though, let us know.

No problem. So far blank rotors from shakker motorsports are the cheapest (345 for all 4). The hunt continues.

Jules,
I don't need rotors yet so I have done some shopping around but like I said in my previous posts, all I really can find is the slotted, etc... This was for research purposes only, at this time I dont need rotors and hopefully when I do brake pads I still wont need rotors, which I may do pads here in the near future....The stockers are really messy! I may try a set of ebc red pads and see what happens?...hopefully I can get to 30k+ before the possibility of buying rotors comes up
