Ultra high performance Tires?

Well its that time again. 2 yrs on the Conti Extreme Contacts and now we got snow again. My car is down to the 2/23's tread and Im all over the place in the snow.

Looking at the Hankook v4-es $94

Kumo Ecsta ASX $100

Avon Tech m550 $99

Falken Ze512 $93

Looking for a long lasting and good dry weather tire with good Sidewalls. And also good in the snow. I did Love and very much Looked forward to snow when my Contis still had tread,,, plowed through 10 inches many times, no trouble.

But now is time to try another tire out.

Has anyone tried any of the above , or want to give advice on what Ulta high perfromance tire your happy with?

Thanks.

All but the Avons are from discount tire... The Avon are from tire rack.

Discount tire has free shipping. So that helps.

cant comment on the Hans or Falkens.... but if I had my choice between the Kumho or Avon I'd look at the Avon.

I've got the Kuhmo ASX's on three of my cars including as my winter tire on my evo...Good in the snow for an All Season, W speed rated I believe, they last a long time also. The sidewalls are very very soft for an UHP tire though. The ride comfort and sound level are excellent, but expect a reduction in turn in. Honestly, if you want tires for the snow, they are a good choice.

There's a really nice review buried in this forum somewhere on the Kumho ASX. My experience with them has been similar. They get the job done at a low cost. MOF, I didn't know there were cheaper tires out there...or I would have bought those . Anyway, I can't say they're quiet tires. My dad has the ASX on his E36M3 and I have them on the Evo. We both experience louder than normal road noise. There also seems to be problems with balancing the tires. Both of us ended up with a cubic **** ton of balacing weights on all our wheels when having them mounted.

Good news is how well they wear. I'm running -2 camber (track settings) at all 4 corners as a daily driver and I'm not seing any inside tire wear. My dad is running -3 front and -2 rear (his track settings) and he's not seeing much inside wear either. Then again, his M3 sits in the garage most of the time.

The ASX's are also a much nicer ride (softer) when compared to the stock Advans.

The snow season has just started here, but I expect good things based on other's comments.

ok thanks,, For some reason the Hanooks look like they would be good in the summer time too by the tread design.

Anyone use these before.

I need to get some here before the next snow fall,,,,, I got scared last night and turned around and went home. Thougt for sure I would wrap my car around a tree or somthing.

Have had Kumho ASX's for about 12K miles now, going on my second winter. Tire is a good all-season tire and does well in the snow. Not as good as the Advans on dry pavement of course but a good choice for an all season tire, especially for the price.

I have run Hankook RS2's (not the same tire obviusly) and was extremely happy with them, performance wise...however, I am quite surprised that you are talking about ultra high performance tires and snow at the same time...not a good idea IMHO. I know you say you've done fine but UHP tires are not in the same league as dedicated snow tires.

I had the Falkens on Integra, well it doesn't snow in the Bay Area but they were sick tires, I beat them and lasted pretty long, eventually they wore out since I had it lower and the inside, well you all know what I'm talking about. But they were good tires. I just order the same tires from the same website for the Evo since I just got the new Rota P45F rims. FREE SHIPPING!!!!! wowowo and no TAX

I'm in the market for a new set of tires and I'm thinking of trying out the Avon Tech 500s. I had never heard of them and saw they were third on the list in order of best to worst on Tirerack.com, when I saw the price I was blown away.

Falken Zeix 512's were Consumers Reports top pick for all weather tires.

I bought them for a FWD Volvo and noticed a big improvement over the Toto Proxes I had on before.
