Brake Shims Part #?

So I screwed up and tossed the old pads with fiber shims attached, before realizing I needed to pry them off the pads. I've searched everywhere, but have not been able to find an online source or a part number. I called both of my local Mitsu dealerships, but they don't know what I'm talking about. They only have the metal, outer shims, which I already have installed. If I have a part #, I'm hoping the dealership can locate them.

Honestly, some pads come with their own shims which work fine with other pads. One example is performance friction. You might even give them a call and get some shims from them.

Yes the Shims you speak of are already installed on the pads before mitsu gets them. You can use some of the Help brand brake quiet shims or you can find pads that have shims on them.

I've done three sets of EVO brakes (2 with Mus, one with Hawks), and I've never toutched the fiber shim. No problems yet, just make sure you get the metal ones off.

Unfortunately there is no part number for just the shims. You have to buy the pads from Mitsu in order to get the shims you need. I went through the exact same thing almost 3 years ago when I did brakes for the first time.

Instead, go to Checker Auto and get some of these:

And put them on like this:

Do you put the OEM metal shims over top of those?

I know the Performance Friction pads have a shim, do you also install the OEM metal shim over top of those, as well?

I just did my brakes with Ferrodo pads and I did not remove the fiber shim off of the stockers, I only used the metal one with the new ferrodos. Is this okay?

I have had them on for about a day and no problems, whats the benefit of it?

Thanks

Jeller

I think the shims that you peel off the oem's are designed to reduce the frequency of vibration which limits the squeeling noise. I forgot to peel mine and everytime I brake I feel like I'm about to drop 3 molars out of my head....and of course project mu are the loudest.

My Axxis ultimates have also turned into squeeling pigs. I'm assuming it's because I did not transfer the fiber shim from the OEM pad, only the metal shim.

Guys,
I can vouch for the shims. My Ferodos squeeled no matter how much copper antiseize I put on them. I eventually took the shims off the old pads and stuck them on the ferodos, no more squeel.

Do you have to stick the Fiber shims back on the new pads with the remaining adhesive or just put them on as a secondary shim with the OEM metal shim. I removed the fiber shim from the stock brembo pads, but they were slighty deformed due to prying them up. I flattened them the best I could and tried to stick them on the new Ferrodo pads. I then applied anti sqeal grease between the fiber shim and the steel one. Then reinstalled them. You can see the edges of the fiber shim not flat with the back of the pad. Is that okay?
