A Couple of Noob Questions
A Couple of Noob Questions
What's up guys (and gals)?
I'm coming over from the BMW world and I just wanted to know a few things...
1. I know the Evo is at heart a rally car, but why do you guys ride the cars so high on the street? Does lowering the car a lot affect handling in an adverse way? (I'm not talking about lowrider here, but just to the point of tire tuck to the wheel, for example)
2. Other than extra wheel protection and road comfort, what is the reason you guys run such high-profile tires? I used to run 30-profile tires on my M3. What gives?
Thanks

2. Why on earth would you want a 30 series tire? Is that so when you hit a bump in the road you bend your wheel? In order to match a 30 series tire to an EVO and not screw up your speedometer you would need a 19" or 20" wheel. Again, why?

Short answer: Lowering too much adversely effects handling. Too many people go with low springs that don't have enough spring rate and the camber curve ends up crappy. Also, the wheel wells in the EVO are a lot bigger then on your BMW, making the EVO appear to have a tall ride height. Thats the short answer.

Don't look at the fender gap as being an indication of how high the car is, look at the clearance the car has from the ground and you may be a little surprised. The car is already pretty low for a daily driver ... any additional lowering is just asking for trouble. If the car is only treated as an dedicated track and auto-x car then it is a different case.
drive a lowered eco and stock evo and you will see the difference. Unless they have coilovers. And besides you're coming from an E36. Don't take me wrong it's a great car but that's performance luxury car and the evo is an econobox with power
